I started losing weight on 2/13 and by 3/10 I had lost 9 pounds!! I was pumped!!!! Now almost 11 days later I still haven't lost another pound :( I am still watching what I eat and exercising I just don't know how to start losing weight again. Maybe I am being silly and I just need to calm down but it really upsets me watching my boyfriend eat pizza and ice cream while I stay strict with my diet and lose NOTHING. It makes me want to eat a big greasy meal, if I am not losing who cares right? I do care because I have worked hard, but I am just frustrated beyond all words because I expect to be rewarded. Okay enough with my rant I must eat breakfast and head out. If anyone has ideas about how to get through this and start losing weight again I would be so greatful.
Maybe you are not getting enough calories?
Ditto! Is it possible you've gone into starvation mode? What are you eating/whats your deficit?
It's also possible that you need to pump up your exercise just a bit. Are your clothes fitting better? I found that at one point I was losing inches but not necessarily losing weight as things started to tighten up.
You may need to take a break for a little while.
If stepping up your exercise for a week doesn't show any results, then maybe consider a "mini" vacation.
For me, I typically don't exercise on the weekends since I am always traveling to Philly to visit my bf and friends. So I already have 3 days off right there, but when I get stuck at a plateau, I take off an entire week from exercising - AND still watch what I eat. I eat a little less than I would since I am not exercising (so 1300 cals/day instead of 1500), then the last day of my "mini" vacation I splurge a little and eat more than I would normally (1800 calories) and then the following day, go back to eating normally (1400 calories) and exercising.
It will be a gentle shock to your body and help you start losing again.
What do you typically do for exercise?

good job on the 9lbs! thats great, and in ONLY one month thats fabulous! that was like a little over 2lbs a week! next tuesday will be 3 weeks of counting and exercise and i've only lost a solid 3lbs. but i consider that amazing and it exact order as it matchs my caloric deficit total :)
one thing that helps me is to add up in a log of my own, my caloric deficit...so that i know exactly what the scales should be reading as the total goes up. its exciting and rewarding to know that my refraining from pizza and ice cream and that i get to log in the caloric deficit. that keeps me motivated.
so maybe sit down an analysis exactly what is going in your mouth, and what you are exercising off...(in addition to if you are eating enough).
also, its only one week of not losing. you might just wake up tomorrow and be a pound lighter! water weight!
Okay it seems that during my previous post I didn't provide enough information so here is some information that might give you a better idea about what is going on. I am 23 years old I currently weigh 122 pounds with the goal of getting down to 110 or 100 (what ever makes me look good). During the week I am on nutrisystem, so I don't really track my calories because it is already planned out for me. Here is a sample day for me on the program: Breakfast: 1 nutrisystem entree, 1/4 cup fat free cottage cheese, 1/2 cup pineapple, and a LARGE glass of water Lunch: 1 nutrisystem entree, 1 salad no dressing, 3/4 ounce light cheddar cheese, and a glass of water Snack: 1/4 cup fat free cottage cheese, 1 medium orange Dinner: 1 salad with fat free dressing, 1 cup of veggies, 1 nutrisystem entree Dessert: 1 nutrisystem entree. On the weekends I consume about 1200-1300 calories a day (excluding last weekend where I ate about 1500 a day). I workout on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday doing about 15-20 minutes with weights and 20-30 minutes for cardio. If I am in starvation mode how exactly should I get out of it? I haven't planned my menu for the weekend yet and would be grateful if anyone could suggest an appropriate calorie amount for Saturday and Sunday. Thanks to everyone for their help!!!
yeah, i'd say you need to eat more. i'll let someone else tell you how much more though LOL i have no idea...
i didn't think starvation mode came that quickly though!
congrats on your weight loss so far!!! that is awesome :D
Why would following the nutrisystem eating and exercise program be designed where it would put a body in starvation mode?
It will pass...don't give up! I was just reading about this in a book by Jillian Michaels. If you stick with the same calorie intake everyday, your metabolism will adapt to the new fixed reduction of calories. Once this happens, it slows down (obviously, not good). So you may be shooting for 1400 cals a day (for example), but instead of doing that, shoot for 9800 in seven days, i.e. 1300 one day, 1600 another, 1400 another, and so on. This way, your metabolism can't adapt to the new calorie reduction and the chances of hitting the plateau will be smaller.
Also, don't forget we will usually lose water weight at the beginning and then slow down, then the weight starts to go down again...think positive, you are doing well!
Great job on the nine pounds! I've lost seven so far and to be feeling a difference in my jeans is a motivator in itself. At least my "fat" jeans fit me now...lol.

The first month you most likely dropped a lot of excess water you had been carrying. That is typical of anyone undergoing a dietary change. Don't cave in, it is what every diet center and dietbook author and diet supplement manufacturer to do. They want you to fail so they can keep taking your money. Eat healthy, eat the right amount, and exercise. You will probably not lose 9 lbs in one month again. But its the months where you drop 2, 3 or 4 lbs that add up to true, lifelong, sustainable losses. Keep going!!!
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
