I feel sick
Hey guys. So for the last two days I have been getting terrible stomach pains, I think I drank some dodgy water when I was staying with my gran who lives on a mountaintop in tipperary. The water is full of lime, and we usually drink bottled but they didnt have any. On top of that on the same day as drinking the water I ate pizza, and had a reaction to the it, drank grape juice and ate spinach, all of which made my stomach TEN times more crampy.
So I am feeling pretty sick. My mum is also sick. We are both curled up on the sofa with tv and tea. However my mum is worried about my eating as I am trying to gain weight and am recovering from an ed.
I am not at a dangerously low weight. I went to see my therapist today with my mum and he said to me that this is a challenge as part of my recovery. Getting sick is normal and people lose their appetites or dont eat as much when they are physically sick, so I need to be able to deal with this "bug" and rest up and take in lots of fluids. Then when I am better I need to go back to eating and gaining again (another part of a normal process).
I think he is right because by doing this I am listening to my body in a different way as well as becoming more flexible and stronger against my ed.
What do you guys think?
i think its as ur therapist said, its not rocket science and no need to overannalyze.
we all get sick, we all deal w it.
its diff for u bc u need to continue to get healthy and gain weight. find foods that do suit you while sick. maybe stick w the brat diet, lots of toast, crackers, bread type foods, bananas, rice... u can still eat enough while sick.
ALSO, i was once told that u need MORE calories to fight off a sickness so hopefuly thatll help motivate u to continue to get healthy and eat more!
feel better
you see your therapist on a sunday?
i think all you can do is try your best untill you are better, it isnt your fault you are ill try to find some different foods you might be able to manage even if its liquid based so you are getting some calories in even if its just toast or cereals . try not to worry to much but dont let this be a reason for you to lapse . rest up if you dont get any better see your doctor . thinking of you hope you get better soon h xx
Thanks guys, yea ultimately I think he is right. This can be a chance for me to grow, get stronger and get more experience against my ed. I had toast, boiled veggies and cereal and stewed fruit all day, and lots of Sprite.
Fidget: My therapist works for HSE during the week so he only works as a therapist on a weekend.
gee... dedication! yeah, just eat what you're comfortable with. no point arguing with your body on these occasions. i know they are just sugars but you can take plenty cals in with soft drinks and juices, so do your best with those. grape juice is particularly in cals. are you actually vomiting?
yep!its the full works, from both ends-if u know what i mean!sorry, tmi!. grape juice gives me major cramps, but i am drinkin flat sevenup and sprite and not the diet stuff either, hopefully ill feel better tomorrow, please!!i get so moody without my foody!!
okay - if you are vomiting and have diarrhea then you need to fast. i thought you just felt nauseous but if you have vomiting and diarrhea then you need to stop all solids and liquids except water and dioralyte for about 12 hrs.
having high sugar things increases osmosis in your gut and will further the diarrhea. how long has it been going on?
Oh right! two days, but I feel a lot better today, and i read your post just after having a bowl of oats! :-( what do u suggest?im feeling weak, i need foood!
if you can keep it down, eat - but if you still have vomiting and diarrhea - then fast
Whether you can keep it down or not, you need to try to drink at least water. Clear liquids like pedialite, sprite, low-fat broths, will help even more. Very small sips. Often. V & D will dehydrate you making it even more difficult for your body to recover from the illness.
Once you can keep things down and they don't go straight through, try dry toast, plain crackers, or plain scrambled eggs. Once that's ok, you can move on to whatever you want in small amounts.
