How did you feel when someone noticed you lost weight?

Quote  |  Reply
Waves across the room wearing her famous black mini (which one day will be 5 sizes too big for her) and says ?Yoohoo G?day?

Just want to say that I have had quite a lot of people writing about their story on the moment they realised that they needed to loose weight. See my original Post, under this section titlled "What made you decide to loose weight". Thank you everyone. Standing up now and applauding to all ? A truly amazing bunch of people. This time I would dearly love to know how you felt when you heard the words??.Wow you lost weight!? Who was it that noticed? Will you continue with your weight loss? How has that changed your life?

I?ll start first again::

Mine happened this week actually. Not one, not two but three people noticed. It?s been three months since my decision to loose weight. Three long months of waiting for someone to say ?Wow Sue you look great - girl, there is a spring in your step now. Are you loosing weight?? It was; of all people, the two gas station attendants that I see every week. The other person was a friend of mine (who is fit tanned and very slim). She walked ahead of me when we went shopping. She stopped, looked at me, and for a moment I thought I was still wearing my breakfast, she smiled, her face lit up and said. ?Sue it?s coming off you are loosing your tummy.? Pay day had come! That is all I wanted to hear. It?s an amazing feeling it?s changed my life because I saw how happy they are for me. Wow I felt so happy and relieved at the same time. I will definitely continue until all the weight is gone. I can?t wait to see my friends? eyes and faces when I tell them I lost 55kilos (121lbs). Hope they don?t have a heart attack????This is motivation at its highest (well for me at least). Not them having heart attacks, ahh you know what I mean. What is your story?

The best part is noone has seen me this week and this week is when I have noticed the most! My husband notices and so do I! Kids have been sick so its been hard to exercise but I have and thats what determination does! I cant wait to see someone, I actually have a fitted shirt on right now and not embarrassed!
Hey Slappy

Please tell me when it happens and how you felt. It is the best feeling ever......
Hello Erik

Thanks for adding the link........Much appreciated. Is there a story you can share with us? Love to hear it.
Love Suzzi

PS to Slappy

I am happy tht the shirt is making you feel great......You just wait until someone says something.....You will dance a jig or two........
Hi Suzzi - certainly I'll share my story!

I was always overweight, even as a child. When I graduated high school I weighed about 230lbs, and the first year at college it only started getting worse (we call the inevitable first year weight gain the "freshman 15" - usually brought on by too much beer and unhealthy non-home cooked meals). Now, I always wanted to be a pilot ... in fact while I was in high school I had managed to get my private pilot's license and decided to enroll in college at a specialist aeronautical university in Florida to pursue my dream and study aerospace engineering with the goal of becoming a flight test engineer. This is, btw, also where I met Igor. We're both aero-nerds!

Well, I had a bit of a shock one day when at the flight school they made me get on a scale to do the "weight and balance" before we went up in a small plane. I was too much ballast and it'd be impossible to go up flying! I was really embarassed, and decided, now was the time to change.

So, as a engineering student, I approached this problem like an engineer. What was causing me to gain weight? And how could I lose it? I read up on calorie counting, which in my technical mind made a lot of sense. Losing weight is like a math problem...you just have to make the numbers work!

Summer after my Freshman year we went home for our Summer break and I got to work. Everyday I logged my calories, kept track of my weight, started exercising, and eating healthy. By the middle of the summer I'd dropped enough weight to go to a local flight school and do some further training and get on track. By the end of the summer, I was down to 190lbs and looked totally different.

When school commenced again in September, I had a friend pick me up at the airport whom I hadn't seen all summer and hadn't told I was dieting. He couldn't believe it was me, and neither could any of my other schoolmates. It felt really great.

I started this site to help other people experience that same epiphany I had when I figured out weight loss could be figured out and was not some big mystery. With the right tools, it's easy to lose weight, and we really hope we can't keep improving these tools and this site to help everyone liftoff to their dreams :)
thanks for the motivation. ALL Of my family is in NC and Im in NY so they are going to flip! I was always too thin growing up, not by choice but now with 2 kids I have gained. my mom came to visit this weekend and she was here when I put on the shirt but no response. A little background- she is 230lbs and says she is trying to lose but not trying hard, she was 149 lbs at my wedding 6 years ago so I know she can do it. She has been negative about this. My dad was going to buy me an outfit for Christmas and asked my size- guess he thought I was a zero or something by the way he reacted! Mom in Law is trying to lose but not good at it, actually like watching a comedy with her. She sees chocolate and says she had to eat it, she was having a bad day! Its funny. My husband though is AWESOME! Bought me Medium shirts the other day to show me he has faith in me- Really the only person I feel like ever has! OF course he is cut and built like a football player! He is very motivating. Sends me emails while he is at work to tell me how proud he is. Its great to have someone like that! My 4 year old daughter told me today my tummy was getting smaller so that was nice- kids dont lie!
Howdy Erik

First of all I want to say thank you for starting this web sight. It has certainly made yours truly feel that I am not alone. It seems that you and I have diff ways of handling our weight loss. You approached it through your engineering eyes and researched about food. I have started to write in my journal, and started to make charts reports etc? You see I?m in the administration business and I thought to myself I will treat this weight problem as a business. It is working. The only thing though is that I am not as educated about food as you are, but I?m sure that will come in time. I think your story is an inspiration to us all. It feels good to know that you have achieved something in your life and that people around you are recognising it. Wow I wished I was a fly on the wall that day when your friend saw you for the first time since you weight loss. You are now probably in maintenance mode and I am sure have worked it out by now. Well done on your weight loss and well done on this sight. I love it and would love to be part of it for a long long time.
Hey Slappy

Isn?t it heartbreaking when someone you love dearly doesn?t notice that you have lost weight. I happened here, but I guess we may not have lost enough for them to notice. So we wait and wait until one day it happens; now that day will be fantastic for you. Your mom and mother in law are probably not interested to loose weight. Perhaps they are comfortable with life and we all know what comfort does to a person. Well for me I took my hubby for granted, but no more. I love the sound of your husband how sweet is he to send you emails. I want a hubby like that. Ohh yeah I got one (I get flowers form him), so I guess that evens it up. Wow I love the last line about your daughter, it made me smile. Keep up the great work and keep in touch.
Thanks! The thing is my mom has started going to Curves and says she likes it but then goes home and eats normal. Guess it upsets me because she has lost before, she knows what to do and says she is miserable the way she is. She could notice it on me but she refused to admit it. Actually just got off the phone with her and she is going out to breakfast instead of going to Curves this morning so thats 2 days now she isnt going to exercise. Thats fine- I cant control what she does, I just know I have no plans of being like that.
And my hubby is wonderful!

It has not happened yet. I am still patiently waiting for a little something. When I get noticed I'll let ya know. Eric what an inspiration. I think you must be a wonderful person. Of course going up in airplane is not my cup of tea. I know what you are going to say. "Whatis your cup of tea!" My answer....having friends...giggling huggers
Hi Slappy

Just concentrate on your self.........it sounds like your mom is not fully committed to her health and body.........She will one day however, stop, look at you and tell you those words.......Now tht will be a proud day for you. Congratulations on your weight loss keep up the good work.
Ok guys it happened again. An aquaintance of mine saw me for the first time in 3 months and the first thig she said was......Sue you are georgious...your loosing weight. I smiled said thank you and giggled with her jumped up and down on the spot and said. "Finally I got hold of my life" Just had to share it with you
For me it was a fellow mom at the homeschool program my son attends. It was the wierdest thing. I didn't see any changes in myself, it had only been a week, but I wasn't feeling well that day and so was walking kinda slowly. I saw her approaching me and so I stepped to the side so as to not be in her way. She looked at me, grabbed my arm and says, "are you losing weight?" I was so shocked I said, "well, I am trying to" and she proceeded to tell me how she had been looking at me for a couple of days trying to decide if I was losing weight or just dressing differently... Then she asked me my secrets and all of that... It was very strange. I felt great that she noticed, but wierd that I hadn't noticed any change. Then, that very night, I hugged my hubby while he was making dinner, and he said I was thinner. He could feel it. Still I didn't notice anything in myslef... but it felt so good to hear those things it became a motivator for me... I want to hear it again!
ok ok ok! So it happened! I got my "virus" full force today so Im bloated, slid into my jeans and another shirt I havent worn in years AND IM BLOATED! :)
Anyway met hubby and a girl from his work for lunch, Take my coat off and she says LOOK AT MISS SLIM AND TRIM! Felt awesome! her and I talk some and hubby keeps her updated on my progress she is trying to lose too and says I am her motivation! All thru lunch she kept telling me how good Im looking! Feels good! And my husbands grandmother also told me she thought I had lost weight! So there it happened Suzzi! and it felt great!
okay, i have a different feeling when people have noticed weight loss. (which will explain why I am new to site as I need to lose so much ...again) Last year, I did the big low carb.....boo....hiss..... as I lost the weight..some of the weight..lost 30 pounds, and people noticed, it frightened me. I loved the fact that it had been noticed...I don't know. Strange, huh? Now, don't get me wrong...when I lose the weight and keep it lost! It will be awesome. Mind set is sooo different this time.
Still waiting patiently....tapping my foot...it will come.....giggles....
it finally happened. the girl at the checkout counter noticed and said i was looking good. today it helped i needed a little extra encouragment
Mywild child that is so great to hear the words "have u lost weight" keep it up great going........Stay focused and motivated.....I am so happy for you...love suzzi
