I feel soreness coming on - should I still workout tonight?
I did a step class last night for the first time in nine months. I rejoined the workout scene about two weeks ago. My first class was a kickboxing class that had me limping for the following five days. I then played easy games of racquetball on two days since then. The step class last night was definitely a challenge and I feel tenderness in my calves. From experience I know that the worst soreness is still to come two days after the actual workout.
I would love to work out again tonight at another step class but have always been nervous about getting to a class and finding out I can't finish for some reason and having to walk out in the middle. If my body starts screaming at me tonight becuase I'm sore from the night before, that will be the case.
Am I overreacting? Do you think I should still go?
i think you should try it and not worry about having to leave in the middle... it should feel great to know that you at least tried. I was so sore yesterday and this morning from working out but i still pushed myself to go to the gym both days and after about five minutes of movement, the soreness went away. (it's coming back now, but I'm glad i got my workout in). Just try not to push yourself too hard to where it could result in injury
It's good to move the day after a workout, even if you're sore because it actually decreases soreness by flushing some of the lactic acid built up in your muscles (hence soreness). I'd suggest explaining your situation to your instructor, telling him/her you might leave early and get a step near the door in case you need to make a quick exit.
