Your body sees surgery as an injury, so maybe if you see it that way (as something you need time to recover from) it will make it easier for you. I don't know much about recovery from gallbladder surgery, what you need to do for yourself, so I won't make any recommendations, but in general, I will tell you to take good care of yourself.

Eat as well as you can, drink as much water as you can, and rest as much as you can. Treat your body well, remember that this is a chance for it to heal right the first time, so you don't have complications down the road. A lot of time our bodies hold on to water weight as part of the rebuilding process for healing muscle after we exercise (I've read on the forums that the water is part of the chemical process and is necessary for building muscle). Makes sense that the healing process after surgery would be the same. Plus, you've got medications and other stuff in your system which your body is likely not used to. And if you were given any steroids, they can cause temporary weight gain.

Take a deep breath and take care of yourself like you'd take care of someone else: worry about your getting better, not about the numbers on the scale. Good luck and I hope you are fully mended soon.

If you are still concerned on Monday about the bloating and weight, maybe call your doctor or surgeons office and ask them if there is something you can do to get past this or if those things are a warning sign for something. My non-medical professional guess is that you are still healing.

Good luck.

Hi! I am not a doctor so am guessing but I assume the bloating is from extra fluid from the surgery perhaps along with local swelling? Can you talk to your doctor about it?

It can take several weeks to get better from such surgery (and what you had isn't minor!) and you should take care of yourself while eating healthy, but don't worry too much about the exact number on the scales. Are you able to exercise? If so, and if the doctor approves, get back doing all the active things you used to do before. Are you still calorie counting? If not, get back to it. Treat yourself well, you went through some serious surgery!

Rest assured this blip in the scales will come off, it just may take some time as you heal.

thanks guys :-)

Hi Ruthie - I sympathise - I had a lumpectomy at about the same time and whilst this has not upset my water balance I am certainly not as active as I was - and it was not  lot before!  I agree with the other posts above and would just add trying to keep mobile - even if it's not a lot.

Look after yourself!

If you've had a laparoscopic operation they blow you up with air to have more space to operate. It just takes time to let the air get out.

The weight gain can be a reaction to the anastethetic. If you want to be sure, please talk to your doctor when you go for a checkup and let him/her explain how such an operation goes. If the air in your stomach is painful you can go sooner of course.
