Vegetarian

I'm not blaming this on being a vegetarian, but I was wondering if any of you have expereinced this or can identify my problem.

I've always had low blood pressure and I will feel faint every once in a while. But I've been feeeling faint since about 5 in the evening yesturday. Especially today: I feel very weak, and my lips are ghastly pale.

Yesturday I probably didn't eat as much as I should have, but I was on a tight schedule. I planned on going to a spinning class with my dad this afternoon, but I feel as if I'm going to pass out sitting here. Have any of you expereinced this? Does anyone know what's wrong or what foods I can eat that will help?

Call your dad and tell him he needs to take you to the emergency room. NOW.

While you wait for him have something to eat--a piece of fruit/or some juice+some protein. This is serious stuff.
Definitely make a doctor's appointment.  It could be nothing, but it could be a sign of something else.  Don't wait until you feel so bad that you start to pass out!  And make sure that you are eating enough.  Sometimes not eating can make one dizzy.

I fainted once or twice in high school (once while giving a presentation in class!) and it turned out that I am slightly hypoglycemic.  Not a big deal, but if I hadn't gone to the doctors, it would have popped up again.
You should definitely check this out with your doctor. I used to faint often, and I found out I have a heart problem that causes it. If you feel that the feeling isn't going away, try eating something with some sodium in it. That should balance out your electrolytes. You could also try eating a piece of fruit, like banana, to increase your sugars and potassium in case its low blood sugar. But you never know, talk to your doctor about it and don't let them brush you off! It took six years for me to find out what was wrong.
You need a doctor trip, perhaps an ER trip. There are a lot of causes, from simple to very deadly. I had a similar problem, turns out it was anemia, but it could have been something more immediately dangerous.
I've never had issues with fainting like that so Im totally unhelpful but I can imagine tis really scary!

Sounds like (with your pale lips and things) its a circulation problem though . . . I dont know what foods would help with that.  Maybe folate and heart healthy vitamins?

Im no doctor though and have no previous issues with fainting so take my diagnosis with a grain of salt.

You might not have to, I've heard that fatigue can just be caused by a lack of B12 and iron, which are usually in meat so unless you take vitimans you might be deficient. Emergencey rooms are usually overcrowded and they'll get pissed so see if it goes away once you eat. Raise you blood glucose, firstly.

Are you generally sort of tired?
I would have it checked out anyway, I've been to the doctor everytime because I'd lapse into an anxiety attack. Make sure you're drinking not just water, but maybe gatorade or juice.
Thanks for the replies, I didn't think it could be serious.

I'm 6'0" tall and thin, so dizzyness isn't entirely new to me. But when I get my second HPV shot (I think that's what it's called - the STD preventing shot thing XD) I'll bring it up to the doctor.

Once again, thanks all.

Hi Muttlover,

Within the last year I've become a vegetarian. I too have begun to feel faint. Have you asked your doctor if you've become anemic? I don't know whats going on with me, but that may be the case with you. I also know that vegetarians have to get enough vitamin b12, but I don't know the symptoms if they don't. good luck.

Hi everyone i'm new i eat fish only i exercise alot  lately i was feeling very faint what could this b?

June 30th you posted this thread http://caloriecount.about.com/whats-wrong-ft1 43994 saying you were anaemic and suffering from irregular periods.  Add that to being a vegetarian and it puts 'iron deficiency' right at the top of the suspect list.  In January you posted this thread http://caloriecount.about.com/period-back-ft7 5898 about losing your period for a year due to an ED.

I would therefore check  you're the right weight for someone 6'0" and recovered from an eating disorder... ie. a BMI of at least 20 or 147lbs (10st 7lbs).  Next check that you're getting the right amount of calories... 2300-2500 a day  if you're reasonably active.... and eating/snacking regularly.  And finally that you're getting sufficient iron in your diet supplemented with a daily multivitamin with iron.

And, of course, if it carries on.... see your doctor

It very well could have been the first installment of the HPV shot...I know a lot of people who have been reacting that way to those, even passing out right after receiving the injection. Those shots have all kinds of weird side effects.
