Feeling Guilty

Quote  |  Reply

Hi guys!  This is my first week of maintaining, I've been doing it for about four days now, and to be honest I feel like I'm getting totally fat.  Although my weight hasn't budged (I'm actually a pound under my goal maintenance weight), I feel like I am eating WAY too much to stay at the same measurements!

I am 15 years old, 5'5", 113 pounds, and I log myself in as sedentary even though I have sports practice for two hours a day on weekdays.  When I was losing, I tried to eat 1200 and 1400 calories (every other day switch), and I lost at a good and healthy pace.  Now I'm eating 1600 calories a day, but it just feels like too much!  I feel guilty and upset about everything I eat that's over what I used to eat (1400), even when I'm hungry.  Does anyone have any advice?

Edited to add:

Here, I'll show you what I ate today so you can see what I mean.

Breakfast: bowl of oatmeal (prepared with milk), chocolate rice granola bar

Snack: 2 big sprigs of celery

Lunch: salad with chicken, chips, rice, and salsa

Dinner: personal pesto pizza, banana, pop-tart

You see?  It just doesn't seem right to me.  I mean, come on, I had a pop-tart and a banana, two of the foods I would never have even touched while trying to lose!  It just seems like too many calories to be able to maintain my weight.  Oh, and I am still under the intake today.  Bizarre.

You will NOT get fat from eating the above menu.  That is not alot especially for someone who is 15.  Bananas are GOOD for you!!  I ate one almost everyday and still made my goal weight.  I seriously doubt you are eating enough calories. 1600 is too low (in my opinion) for a teenager.

You probably need even more calories than that if you're only 15 and you're active.  Probably more around 2000 or so.  I know it seems like a lot...I hear ya.  I'm pretty much in the same boat - I was eating 1200 - 1400  but now that I've reached my goal I should maintain on more like 1600-1900.  However, eating so little for a long time takes its toll and I don't want to ruin my metabolism.  So now I'm logging my calories to make sure I'm eating enough!

When I was your age (I'm 29 now) I was on the swim team and I didn't worry about what I ate.  And I know I'd come home from a particularly strenuous practice and eat a LOT.  You are burning more calories than you realize.  If you don't eat more, you could ruin your metabolism.  And you don't want that, trust me!

I know just how you feel. For the longest time I couldn't make myself eat over 1200 calories. (I'm 18, 5'3 and 118 pounds btw, so almost the same as you, just a little heavier)

I don't want to lose anymore weight. I got down to a size 2 and I'd rather not have to buy anymore new clothes cause I'm broke.

Lately, I've been eating around 1500 calories though I should be eating 1800. I don't seem to be losing or gaining though, just maintaining.

I do know how hard it is to eat more. Everyday I am so scared that I'm gaining weight, especially if I had a treat (like today). You say you do sports two hours a day though, so you are definatly burning off anything you eat, you're not going to gain unless you eat over 2200 or 2300 calories.
