I don't have any but maybe if we bump this someone else will give you a sensible reply.

Hi nikkihmr!

I was just searching for forums about the Zone diet and I found this.  The gym I go to swears by it to help you maintain the required energy to do hard workouts (I go to a Crossfit gym).  I just started at this gym in May and love the workouts, but have just been calorie counting to monitor my food intake, but now I'm trying the Zone way of eating.

My dad lost A LOT of weight on the Zone this spring.  He was previously overweight and inactive.  He started running for only 20 minutes or so, 5 days a week and sticking to the Zone diet. I was amazed how quickly he lost the weight and for someone  who has years of bad habit eating, he said it was easy to stick to.  He did take a few cheat days to go out for his birthday, etc.

I've decided to follow the methods of the Zone AND count calories to make sure I'm eating enough... some people claim they either ate too little or too much.  It makes sense that it would work, since you're getting the calorie count suggested 40-30-30, carbohydrates, protein and fat.  I bought the Zone cookbook, so I can serve my boyfriend however much he wants (one of those naturally skinny people) and then only take what I'm supposed to eat.  My trainer told me I should eat 5 2-block meals, even though Dr. Sears claims no one should eat less than 3, because I'm short (5'2") with a small bone structure and looking to lose weight.

Let me know how you're doing with it!  I just ate lunch... it looked really small, but I'm satisfied and I have another meal coming up in 3 hours ish.

I know you are not in this situation but FYI I was watching yesterday on Discovery or TLC about a man in Mexico who was 1020 lbs- not a type-o really 1/2 a ton well he was doing the Zone and in 1 year he lost about 300 lbs..mind you the man cant even get up and walk; that was just crazy to think that just by moving around in bed (arms back and forth and such) he could lose the weight.

Q...Is it like the Atkins; I've tried the Atkins but all the veggies after 2 weeks started making me sick..not physically but I couldn't even look at one with out wanting to walk away. Mind you I LOVE food; just like veggies though.

Good luck on the diet if you choose to do it though, I've never tried it so I can't comment one way or the other.

We have some friends who are cross-fitters.  They are loving the zone.  The whole family has totally chaged their shape since last summer.  My wife and I have been on it for a few weeks now.  Man what a difference!  I feel better than I did ten years ago.  I've lost over 2 1/2" around my belly.  My wife is having corresponding results.  We are more alert, have more energy, and are not going hungry.

While I am not diebetic.  I used to get some pretty big ups and downs after I ate.  After a zone friendly meal, I feel a slight energy surge and increased desire for physical activity.

Read the book, look at the website.  Don't get it confused with "zone perfect.'

Best Wishes!

I did the zone for quite awhile and it worked very nicely for me as long as I was sticking to it.  My problem was it took a lot of thought for me but even after I gave it up I had built what I consider good habits.  Good Luck!!
