I just fell in love with Kashi GoLean hearty oatmeal.
I honestly had this box of oatmeal for about 2 week and I got it to just get it. I really do not like oatmeal cause I always ate the Quaker brand oatmeal and Im just sick of it. That brand is way too sugary and processed tasting. I just had my first packet of the Kashi GoLean Honey Cinnamon and it was the best tasting hot cereal ive ever had. I love the heartyness of it and it tasted nothing like the Quaker brand. I may have to introduce my dad to this stuff cause he loves oatmeal too.
Agreed with the Quaker brand comment, but the weight control version isent THAT bad, but still its just not good oatmeal. To thin, and its not very filling. Its more like a snack ![]()
As for the Kashi one, I haven't tried it yet! Have you tried the vanilla version? I want to get it (: Kashi never seems to disappoint me.

The vanilla one is AMAZING
you deff wont be dissappointed with the kashi oatmeal. Im amazed that I like it that much. I honestly can say that it would taste great with just some cold fat free milk on it. Like it says on the box, its hearty. I always hear about people putting PB in their oatmeal and I always though about pb in the quaker cereal and it really turned me off but with the kashi I have the urge to put a tbsp of natrual pb in it. I deff need to try the vanilla flavor.
My transition: instant packets --> quick cooking (in big tubs) --> steel cut oats. No going back for me. ![]()

i tried kashi oatmeal and was not a fan. it was too clumpy for me. i like quaker weight control oatmeal better.
iunno they have the heart to heart oatmeal and then the go lean hearty. I have the hearty oatmeal
I have never been disappointed in anything Kashi, ever, but sadly just can never consistently find many of their products (aside from the core cereals and bars - its a crap shoot after that!) - have never even seen their oatmeal and I always look for their product! Ahh, well more thing to add to my scavenger hunt!
All the Kashi products at my store are in a organic/vegetarian section
Does no-one just eat regular, 'rolled oats'.... ?

I used to, before going to steel cut.

Mostly rolled oats, occaisonally steel cut.
Sometimes the Quaker weight control, if I'm in a mood to, but most of the pre-flavored stuff is way too sweet for me, especially first thing in the morning.
Will probably give the Kashi kind a try :)
Yea i find that the Kashi hearty oatmeal isnt close to being as sweet as Quaker oatmeal. I would say its equivilent to adding a tbsp of honey to plain oatmeal.

Oh yes! Most defiantly! I perfer them WAY more then any processed stuff. Make up your own flavors, and I actually find them more filling then the oats in the prepacked stuff. Banana and Cinnamon is my favorite! After the oat meal is mostly done cooking I like to add the banana and cinnamon in then bring it back into the microwave to cook for the rest of the way. The banana gets all melty like. Its soo good (:
Lucky people...no Kashi oatmeal in Canada as far as I know!
OK, I love the Kashi oatmeal, too. But to those of you eating steel cut vs. rolled oats (what's the difference), how do you cook plain old oats? Just microwave them? I was thinking about trying to recreate the kashi very vanilla DIY style and bought a bunch of oats from the dry goods bins. A little daunted about the process of choosing ratios and have no idea how to cook them.
Advice?

Rolled oats are slightly more processed then steel cut. Steel cut are just oats that are cut up, rolled oats are steamed slightly and flattened. This reduces their cooking time. From nutritional perspective the difference is so minimal I wouldn't worry about it. Steel cut oats texture is a bit grainier and flavor is a bit "nuttier".
I usually add half a cup to 3/4 a cup of water for each serving, 40g, and cook in batches. Process is pretty simple: bring water to a boil, add oats, reduce to simmer, and steer on occasion until water is gone. I like mine savory so I usually add spices, or cheese, or tvorog towards the end. Makes for a great burrito stuffing. Seriously.
My biggest advice is to experiment. ![]()
