My Fellow Canadian Snack Cravers!

Quote  |  Reply

Snacking is the hardest thing to give up but I'm working so hard and being so good that I believe I deserve a snack once in a while.  I'm  looking for stuff that is 100-150 calories max.  You want to share your snack ideas that are under 150 calories and somewhat healthy?  I'll start:

  • Crispy Minis (16 = 120 calories) (Quaker mini rice cakes)
  • Sun-Rype fruitsource Mini Bites with veggies (23 pieces = 130 calories)
  • Mrs. May's Ultimate Crunch (10 pieces = 152 calories) Costco
  • Lite Strawberry Jello (a whole package is under 50!)
  • Skinny Cow icecream sandwiches (100 calories each)

Please share!  We are already aware the of usual healthy ones like fruit, etc. share your more creative and "who'd a thunk it" snacks

I like Kraft LiveActive's individual marble cheese portions. I usually just have nuts, fruit, veggies, etc for snacks instead of packaged stuff.

Hey I hear ya Cello.  But, I'm being so darned good with every meal, no cheating, etc. that it feels a little decadent to be able to open a package of something and just eat it without guilt.  It's surprisingly difficult to find stuff in that category - well, that I like.  For instance, there's all these little 100 calorie packages of cookies and granola bars with chocolate, but I'm not into cookies even when I'm not dieting and not so much on the chocolate either.

I luv the cheese too!

Sliced apple with cottage cheese!

Half servings of oatmeal (or even full servings of oatmeal) - perfect for winter

dry fiber one or kashi golean crunch cereal (or 1/2 cup kashi golean crunch with 1/2 cup fiber one to stretch the whole thing out)

Happy snacking :)

I was going to make a new topic about this. Tonight at WalMart I found the Jolly Time Healthy Pop Caramel Apple, I've never seen it before in Canada, I was so excited, it was on my list of things to buy in the US. I popped it in the micro as soon as I got home, and it was so yummy! It's 120 cals/2g fat/22g carbs/6g fibre/0 sugar/3g protein for 43g( 1/2 the bag) Usually I eat a large bag of Smart Pop in 1-2 hours, but I scarfed this down in 30 mins!

Mostly, I've been pretty good about snacking on things like leftovers, fruit, salad, etc.  I was actually kind of unimpressed by the Crispy Minis - the chocolatey ones were way too artificial (in the same way that I don't like most Easter candy as I find it waxy and artificial).  Other low-cal snacks I've enjoyed recently include:

  • Nutri-grain Munch'ems (the brown sugar-cinnamon flavour is the best) are much nicer than Crispy Minis
  • Quaker Rice Cakes (I like the Butter Popcorn flavour best; White Cheddar was okay; I don't like the sweet flavours though)
  • veggies dipped in hummus (with the hummus part being my main point of listing this)
  • dates (100 cals for five or six)
  • 80 g berries (fresh or frozen) + 100 g plain yogurt + 1 tsp. honey = 100 calories
  • 3 squares of a Hershey's Special Dark bar is a decent amount of good chocolate for only 60 cals
  • Alpen cereal (170 cals of yumminess for 45 grams); Post Date, Raisin Pecan Crunch is pretty darn tasty too for about the same cals

I'm slowly weaning myself off granola bars and such, and snacking on homemade muffins instead (120-190 cals each, depending which kind I make; I avoid the low-fat recipes as my main purpose in eating them is to get enough healthy fats in my diet).

Some of my favourite snacks right now include...

Glenny's Spud delites - (Found at Bulk Barn) 100 calories per bag and tastes almost like Munchos... BarBQ Munchos.

Superslim Brown Rice Crisps - 16 for 80 calories

Crab flavoured Alaskan Pollack - 100g for 90 calories (I love this stuff!)

Baby carrots - can't get enough... 12 for 30 calories

I'm going to add Barbara's Bakery Fig Bars. A nice little dessert at 60 cals each and all natural.

I like the crispy mini caramel corn flavour the best, so yummy and less puffed-ricey than the savoury flavours.

Also one serving crackers (80-90 cals) with 2 Laughing Cow wedges (45 cal) or 2 tablespoons lite cream cheese, I like herb and garlic (60 cals)

And if you are feeling ambitious...crab-stuffed mushrooms are a really yummy snack (about 140 cals for 4 large mushrooms stuffed with 1/4 can crab, 2T lite cream cheese, 15g grated low-fat cheddar, chives, smidge of worchestershire, ans sprinkled with 1t parmesan and 1t breadcrumbs)

yummy, yummy!  There are some good things here and Victoriagirl, thanks for the delish crab-stuffed mushroom snack.  I am going to try that out tonight for sure!

Kashi Bars! With a bottle of water, it's very filling. The 'trail mix' flavour is now available in Canada :). Can't wait to try them.

They are also Slim Down bars. They can be found in the pharmacies. My favourite is 'Golden honey and Yogurt'. They have 150 cal, 5g of fat, 1g of sugar and 15 of protein. Delicious, but they cost about 1,44$ each xD

Have you tried Ryvita crackers?  They're yummy with cream cheese (Laughing Cow or other).

I remember trying Ryvitas when i was a teen (on a diet as usual), and I HATED them but ate them anyway. I gave them up when I ended that diet, and never gave them another glance.

Well that was 20 years ago, maybe it's time to give them another chance! Tastes do change, after all, maybe I will love them now :)
