Fellow peanut-butter lovers!!

Quote  |  Reply

I've been a bad vegetarian, eating too many simple carbs and not enough protein. So, recently I've been trying to tweak my diet to include more protein and less carbs......however, every time I see the carbs go down, I see the fat go up

-.-

Anyways, peanut-butter is my *favorite* protein source, but even the reduced fat options has alota fat and calories.

Does anyone know of any brands or like, peanut-butter alternatives that are lighter on the cals and fat?

I know, I know, you're probably laughing and saying just give up the PB! I admit, it's my weakness, for most it's chocolate, but for me......well, you get the idea XD

Thanks!

Better 'n Peanut Butter seems to be a good PB alternative - i've never tried it myself, but have noticed it being talked about on other forums.

check out their website for calorie content and a store locater - i'll be trying it this week too, i think :)

Better 'n Peanut Butter is disgusting.  I bought a jar of it one day (I was so excited about it) and ended up throwing the whole jar away after tasting it.  I guess you might like it, but just be warned...

hmm..good to know - i still might try it for myself to see (i haven't yet..)

betsyanne - do you know of any low cal PB alternative that's decent tasting?

Why not just eat real peanut butter in smaller quantities (a smear of peanut butter on toasts tastes just as good as a quarter of a cup!) and get your additional protein from other sources that are more naturally low-fat?

No, but I tend to eat stuff that is all natural.  I am not sure it is possible to have all natural peanut butter that is low in calories.  I have recently had to ween myself from peanut butter.  I am going on day 4 of my "no peanut butter" rule.  I am trying to see if i can do it for a week.  I found myself dipping the strangest things in peanut butter...i hate to even think how many extra calories i added to my daily intake each day by just taking a little pb here and a little there (of course i didn't record it).  From now on i am just going to measure it carefully (no heaping tablespoons), put it on some bread and enjoy it while it lasts.

Good luck in your search for low calorie peanut butter!  Also, i hope you like Better n' Peanut Butter more than I did!! : )

Thanks everyone!

Better n Peanut Butter sounds like it's worth a try.

But ya, I have to wean myself off PB. *sigh*

Here's how I satisfy my PB craving: dip about 10 baby carrots (4-5 calories each) in half a tablespoon of PB. Or, you can do a whole tablespoon and about 20 baby carrots, depending on how big of a snack you can allow yourself. Remember, a little PB goes a looong way! I usually find that 1/2 tablespoon with 10 carrots is plenty.

There have been some posts recently about PB2. I haven't tried it but everyone says it is wonderful and about 85% less fat than regular. Google it. I think I'm gonna give a try.

what about that powder stuff - PB2?

I have never tried it, but heard a lot about it...

I like Better 'n Peanut Butter, but that's just a personal thing. Nothing beats the real stuff though...sigh

I was gonna suggest PB2  It took me forever to finally decide to order it but I'm SO glad I did!  It's very low cal and one order lasted me forever (probably cause you have to buy at least 4 jars =P)

But yes, it's very very good.  I'm gonna have to order more soon!
erm. by the way, can you buy PB2 from shops or does it have to b ordered? (in the UK)?

I LOVE Better'n Peanut Butter!  It's not the same as regular ol' PB, but I think it has a delicious creamy, nutty taste.  It's perfect with those pretzel slims (those chips that are like steam-rolled pretzels) -- mmmmmmm.

I just ordered some PB2.  I don't think it is available in any stores - you can buy it on ebay, though.  Supposedly it is just nothing but peanut butter, nothing added  - but most of the oil has been pressed out to make it lower in fat/calories.  It's a powder and you have to mix it with water.  We'll see how it is!

nothing added, nothing but peanut butter - so similar to all natural PB?

It's literally peanuts that have been ground up like normal to make peanut butter. Then they extract the oil from the pb so you're left with just a powder.
To make it peanut butter-y again, you mix it with water.

But yeah, it doesn't really get more natural than pb2 haha.

Hmm...I've never heard of pb2 before!  Can you just mix like one serving or do you have to make a lot at once?  How long does it last?  I'm curious. :)

You do it one serving at a time [well, not necessarily a serving, just whatever you wanna eat at the time]. It's a powder, so it has a pretty stable shelf life, though I'm not sure of the exact time. You could probably look that up though.

Google PB2. I just got my first jar today, and it is SO GOOD. I ate half the jar, and it was only 400 calories. They get rid of 85% of the fat, so it's only 54 calories/2 tbsp!!

Totally agree on the PB2, I will never need the "other" kind of peanut butter again! PB2 is so awesome!
