female question

I have been on Deprovera (birth control shot) for over a year and have not had periods. I started going to the gym this week and now am having an actual period. Could my workout be causing this, or is it just coincidence?

I think it is more or less just coincidence. Depoprovera is one of those meds that messes with your hormonal balance in order to prevent pregnancy (it almost mimmicks a  pregnancy or a menopausal state or at least your body thinks it, therefore you cant get pregnant) but it can cause eratic periods or none at all due to the hormonal influxes. I was on it for over 5 years and never had a period which at the time I was grateful for at that time (early 20s) but be careful because now Im not so sure that was a good thing. I am not saying that Depo is the cause, but now that I want to have a baby, I have had nothing but problems concieving and then holding on to a pregnancy....almost 3 years, $9,000 in fertility treatments, 4 miscarraiges and still no baby. I am not trying to tell you not to take it, because for some people its great with no problems, but they tell me my infertility could be because of that, but it can also be because of my weight. Also be aware that Depo's primary indication is for the treatment of prostate & testicular cancers. (BTW I am also an RN)

Well, I already have a wonderful son and don't have any intention of having more children, so I'm okay with infertility. I just thought it was odd...I haven't had a period this entire time, not even light spotting, and then I went to the gym on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday morning I noticed some light spotting and then woke up this morning to a full-blown period.

 Oh well. Just curious.

Then, I think your period was just destined to come so I am going to say definitely coincidental.
