for the females (water weight)

it may sound silly but when dieting and it hits "that time of the month" do you stop losing? could it be due to holding water (water weight)? I have heard of this but I wasnt sure if it was true.

I gain weight every month around that time, then lose it later. Look at the chart in my profile if you want. It shows the last couple of months. Those bumps in the green trend line (where I gain several pounds) are right before TTOM.

(weight is up today from drinking last night ignore the last entry!)
I was sooo hoping that wasnt true! I have about a week till mine and I have been doing so well I didnt wanna be discouraged. at least I will know what it is I guess lol
I find that as long as I know why it doesn't bother me at all. :)
thats what Im thinking....you seem very motivating (just by example alone) do you mind if I add you as a friend on here? I have been around for about 2 weeks but have yet to set up my profile but would love to add you if you dont mind.
Hey no problem, I added you as well. :)

Help!!!!!!!!!!!! I do great all month but then the week before the week of, I go nutz! I crave junk like crazy and I can't seem to stop myself. I can quit smoking but I can NOT quit eating junk during PMS week. Does anyone have any advice? I'm really getting frustrated.

Thanks!
Yep Im the same way.

I find it best to just ride it out.  Sometimes it helps to just go ahead and rearrange your diet in order to fit in the cravings more easily.  If you have a sweet tooth, eating more fruit can help.  I get cravings for pasta and cheese and potatoes that kind of thing.  Its rough but one can get used to it and learn to manage TOM pretty well....
Don't worry, I belive it is just water weight, as we retain more around that time, and soon goes back to normal. It is not uncommon for people to gain up to 5lb at that time of the month, but after a week or so it goes. I gained 2lb last week just before I came on, but now it is nearly finished, I have gone down 3.

I am so sick of the monthly b!tch!!! i too gain weight, my horomones are OOC (out of Control!) and I want to eat everything... It's like I have to work my A off all month long 'cause I do so much damage during that week...

We're here for ya.
I cant handle the depression, the pain and the cravings!!!  About 2 weeks before my TOTM comes I get serious bloadting and pain, so I put on weight then.  To add insult to injury - 2 weeks later my TOTM comes and I gain approx. 4lbs and I cant do hard exercise and get so depressed - I totally understand how you feel girls - we just have to stay strong!!

Well Gang.....

Not that I want everyone to be as miserable about the TOM thing as I am but it does make me feel better to know that I'm not alone. PMS really sucks!

Maybe I will try eating fruit instead of junk. I also have a problem with cheese and chips during that week.

I guess I'm so frustrated because I do just enough damage during that one week to keep adding small amounts of weight over a long long period of time. It's starting to add up! Then I feel awful and soooo disappointed in myself.
....
Ive been told women who spend too much time together start having that TOTM together as well. I don't know how much it applies to the internet, but it seems we're all going through the same thing D: gah. Well, I just got off mine like.. yesterday, thank god. <3

I've had major cravings, but from what I've heard it's usually just best to find a way to fit in those minor cravings in moderation. For me, it was like having to have something sweet at night.. (yesterday), so I just saved like 50 calories so i could then have some light yogurt xD that fixed me up.
IT"S TRUE about women together and their cycles coming inline.  I've lived it!  Man, that was one interesting summer - PMS with 10 women travelling around the country.

PMS rules my life. I'm dealing with it at the mo'.  So far so good on the cravings. Something about counting every morsel keeps me honest and in moderation.  I make sure I have some relatively low-cal treats available - there's some non-fat puddings, 100calorie Cadbury's Thins (these are my favorite!),  there's popcorn - that works for me and is quite low-cal when airpopped, and if all else fails there's lettuce!  Yep, sit back with a bowl of lettuce after one of the above treats and whack away at it until I'm satisfied.  Oh, and I make a mean strawberry shake with or without homemade yogurt.  Not TOO many calories, and really satisfies.  Might just post the recipe on my journal.

Happy Hormones!

PS.  There's a PMS homeopathic  formula that I love - Hyland's.   And don't forget  Omega 3 supplements.  There's a lot we can do naturally to help our plight.
I hate that TOTM.  My norm lasts for 2 - 2 1/2 weeks at a time which is extemely discourging so far as weight loss and cravings go.  At least I have 3-4 weeks before the next one each time.
Currently trying to add flaxseed to my diet because I heard it helps regulate things and I would REALLY love a shorter cycle.

Just ranting I guess..but at least most of you just be grateful yours is a week or less ;) If youre lucky that is.

Oh by the way- I think women do eventually start getting their cycles toether.   I have three daughters and the usual difference between them is 3 days tops.
I have also heard of women working in offices together experiancing the same things.
Paleorchid. I would be far more grateful if I got mine on a constant basis D: ...This problem's been passed down my family, since it's genetic. At times I can spend up to 5 months without seeing trace of my period. This time 'round, it was 2 months before I got it a week ago. ;o; ..then at times it does last up to 2 weeks with it instead of 4 or 5 days. ._. it sucks.

EDIT:
For a low cal treat. Just take fresh ripe strawberries or grapes and freeze them up. Whenever you're craving something sweet, just take some out. <3 they taste better than icecream, and help a lot during these hot summer days. They cut you back on a hell of a lot more cals, too!

play with your head cati, don't weigh yourself until two weeks after it's gone and work out hard until then. It may not discourage you as much. I also try to take weekly progress pics instead of weighing myself because that way i see the difference in inches that i don't see in weight. =]
thanks ladies! I only gained .5 pounds this time (and that was right when I was starting) and now half way through I weighed myself again (skipping 2 days of weigh-ins) and I lost 2 pounds! I am now down 9.2 pounds total! you ladies are amazing! I didnt worry about it knowing that the water weight was all it was and I kicked its butt!

p.s. strawberries really helped! they are sweet and under 100 cal. for a full cup!
thats great! u r very lucky
awesome cati congrats!

I've been eating like crazy today, I can't seem to get full, but I'm not eating very satisfying foods so that is adding to my insatiable hunger ;( I have an irregular cycle but I really feel this one coming on strong.
