Fending off The Freshman Fifteen...
For those in college, or those quickly approaching it, beware!!! The Freshman Fifteen - the bane of college calorie counters everywhere - is ready to take a new group of victims on campuses nationwide this fall!
For those who have felt the pain of the 15lbs of cafeteria food, hanging out in the dorm, not having your highschool extracurriculars, and just being too darned lazy to get out and about, join me in losing that weight! :) As an upcoming junior in college, i'm still waging war against the last 10lbs - who's with me?!?
*EDIT*
August 4th, 2008
To anyone just seeing this topic, please know that you're still welcome to join us! There are voluntary weigh-ins each Wednesday if you're interested. Whether you're headed to college, in it, or leaving it we're happy to have you! :D
WEIGH IN:
126.0lbs
Weight Goal for next week: 125.0lbs (GOALLLLLLL!)
Work-Out Goal for next week: at least 3x doing 30-30-30
Down 2.0lbs from 128.0lbs last Wednesday
Work-Outs since last Wednesday: 3x doing 30-30-30
Aaah! I'm getting so excited!!! I'm so close!!! I keep feeling this need to get to 124 or 123 so that I'll be a -solid- 125, and that I don't celebrate, courtesy of a fluctuation. haha! But I'm just fine as long as I can see that 5!!! :D I'm still going to keep working and watching what I eat, but I feel so happy to know that I'm almost there! Oh! Also, I got measured the other day, and it turns out I grew a little - I'm a legit 5'5'' now. hehe, I was 5'4.5'' at last check (a few years ago). Fun :)
Hope your birthday stuff all went well, Lea :) Don't worry too much, I'm sure it'll fall right back off!
Carrie - Hey, every little bit counts, and I'm sure that coming off of TTOM will make a big difference! Just keep pushing through and I bet this time next week you'll be just at or below 150.0! :D Great job with the running stuff - are you doing it outside? I bet that that's really burning a lot! I'm a sucker for the elliptical + a big fan, hehe.
Matt - Lol! Wow. Well, maybe your body just needed a few days off! XD Sounds like a pretty good kick in the metabolism! :P I bet if its already down that far, that you'll see a big drop over the next week or so :)
Yay Heather I'm so excited for you!!! :D You better not leave us when you reach your goal, lol :). And yay for growing, too! Hehe.
I will be SO excited when I'm finally out of the 150's. 140's, here I come!!
Yep, I'm running outside. I was doing the elliptical at school, but I don't have a gym membership here, and I like running outside more anyway. It seemed like when I did the elliptical I would barely break a sweat. I probably just didn't have the resistance up high enough or something. Running outside is easier - no confusing buttons, haha :P.
Two more miles this morning, yay!!! This is getting addicting - now when I don't run in the morning I feel lazy, lol.
Yeah, it's a bit weird with all the girl stuff you guys talk about it but you guys put up with my ridiculous lifestyle choices so I can't complain. Not to mention I've had better results with you couple girls than I have at any weight training forum so it's definetly paid off even though we have ridiculously different goals.
Once I get my abs where I want them I'm actually going to have to start doubling my calorie intake but I'm thinking I might just stick here with you guys. It'll be good to have a female opinion on my progress, anyway!
Plus I'll love to brag about how I'm eating 3500 calories a day. Hahaha.
Great job Heather. You're crazy close. What are you going to do after you hit your goal?
Haha, I don't think I could eat 3500 calories a day if I tried!! Unless it was alcohol calories.
I'm... I'm going to Disney World!!! :D Ok, not really :P hehe... but that would be fun...
I won't be leaving :) I've still got to maintain and i'm pretty addicted to CC (and this little group! :D I've still got to be around to encourage you guys too!) I'm thinking of taking it to 124 or 123, not on any schedule, but just so that I can stay 123-125ish, rather than 125-127ish (with fluctuations). I don't much care =D I'm just really really glad to finally be so close!
Haha, I could totally gorge myself on 3500cal... but It'd be bad stuff and I'd have a hard time forgiving myself after the fact! hehehe, that's awesome though - we'll all be jealous of that. And we can't hastle you about your lifestyle, lol, as it seems to be helping you out from time to time :P Plus, you have to be able to have a little fun, or it couldn't truly be a "lifestyle".
And that's good about the running :D I feel bad if I go more than like... 3 consecutive days without working out :P I'm just paranoid I'll fall back into my old ways or lose my tone if I don't go! hehe.
Edit:
You know what? Now that I'm thinking about it, I know exactly what I'll do :) I'll start, rather than watching my weight, doing body fat %age goals! I think lately I'm around 21-22%. I'd like to see it around 18%, and it'd keep me working out for sure :D
Glad you'll be sticking around Heather :)! Working on your bf% sounds like a great idea!!
No run tomorrow morning - giving myself a rest day. In other news, I think I finally found a good combination of diet and exercise for me. I'm a little bit of a math nerd, so I did a whole bunch of calculations today. I won't bore you with it, but check out my newest journal if you wanna read about it.
I think I'm finally facing the fact that I'm going to have to buy running shoes. It looks like this running thing just might become a habit (I hope so, anyway). I told my runner friend that, and he was like "I never thought I'd see the day." To be honest, I didn't either! I'm also hoping that buying expensive shoes will help motivate me to keep running at school. That's the theory at least.
Edit: Heather, I was just looking at your profile and I have to comment - you've lost 25 pounds since FEBRUARY? That's AWESOME!! :D *round of applause*
So, I had a great Monday and Tuesday for dieting. I also exercised (weight training) all three days this week and plan on making it five, plus a day of yoga.
But anyway, yesterday, my buddy calls me at work to say there's a huge event going on at a local bar called Sidetrax (SO sketchy...but loads of fun - pretty sure it's the only bar in North America they still allow you to smoke in. I don't smoke, but it's an interesting tidbit) so I go out for some Wednesday drinking. I also made an AMAZING steak for myself that night - I'm pretty much the best barbecutionist around. Seriously. I've got a gift. Just sayin'.
But anyway, I eat my dinner, go out, pound down eight beer, get to the bar, and throw down four or five diet coke and spiced rums. Whatever. That's life.
So, I step on the scale this morning, and I've dropped two pounds. I weigh 180 pounds.
Yes, I reached my goal after a night of mid week drinking. I'm starting to think there's a connection. I'm not stopping yet as I still want to trim my stomach for ab showing purposes and I suppose my next goal is to get my trend weight down to 180. Huge day. I celebrate by being hung the **** over this morning and get McDonalds breakfast to ease my troubles. It does. This will probably cause me to lose 13 pounds.
***
Heather - body fat is a GREAT thing to do. In fact, it's so much smarter than weight. I really need to start that, honestly.
Carrie - Buy some expensive sneakers. I'm spurging on the new Adidas Chelsea sneakers as soon as I lay my eyes on them.
all the best
Thanks ^_^ I started January 26th, so yeah - pretty much since February :) I'm almost to my 6-month-aversary with CC, lol! :D
Congratulations Matty!!! That's awesome!!! /highfive :D I wish my body would do that :P But then I'd probably be a much drunker, much less bouncy tigger. haha! Good luck with the BF to you too :D If you'll be sticking around, we could do body fat %'ages with our weigh ins too and enourage eachother. I'm also thinking of using a tape measure to track my progress there too, since I think reducing your bf%age is a much slower journey than weight. Maybe it'll keep me optimistic. :)
I'm excited about working on the body fat thing. I think that the reason that I wasn't quite seeing the results that I wanted has a lot to do with my need to keep toning, so I'm going to make that a big priority fall semester. I'm hoping that by Halloween, I'll be down around 18% bf. I think that it takes much longer to lose, but IDK. I am still hoping a little more fat will slide off, but that I can maintain my weight by gaining some muscle :) I don't want to bulk up exactly, I want long lean muscles.. but I want ones that will give me a little definition too :) Cardio + Strength training all the way! It should be much easier to work on that up at school because the gym is just across the street from my apartment! :D
I slept in this morning and it was great...I woke up at 8 like normal, went back to sleep, woke up to my alarm at 9, went back to sleep again, and then finally woke up at 10, lol.
Matt - that's super weird that you lose every time after you drink. I'm crazy jealous. Oh, and does the trend weight actually mean anything? What would be the purpose of trying to get your trend weight down to 180? Just curious.
I'd totally be on this body fat train, but I don't have a way to measure mine :(.
yeah - have a bf% analyzer on that Taylor scale that I got at walmart but its all over the place with my readings.. I'm hoping the rec center at school will have a better one. Also, I wonder when you are strong enough to change the setting from "normal" to "athlete". I've been wondering that for a while...
I'm going to try and get my trend weight down to 125 - it just means that its definitely not water weight or fluctuation, I think. It tracks your weight but gives you kind of a margin on error, I think. :)
Gah, i'm jealous :) I only sleep in on weekends now... I have to be up at 6:30AM to get ready for work, and I usually don't get to bed until at least 11:30PM. Definitely NOT helping my weightloss! heh
Yeah, I just read that the trend weight is the average of your last ten weight entries, so that makes sense. So basically after you're at that weight for a while, if you keep entering it your trend weight will be the same as your actual weight.
I would love to have a full time job or some type of internship this summer...but I didn't get on the ball with that soon enough, so I'm just enjoying it because this is probably the last lazy summer I'll have until I retire :P.
So I had a loverly run this morning. :D
Just FYI, I'm going to Vermont for three days, Saturday through Monday, so if you guys don't hear from me that's why!
That sounds like fun :D Have a good time!!
So my little sister is turning 13 today... and she's chosen to go to Outback Steakhouse for her birthday dinner. I have looked and looked and I just don't think there's anything healthy at the place! Right now, I'm considering either the 7oz filet or the salmon... both sides veg, no butter. I've only eaten 410cal so far today, and I'm going to try not to eat again before dinner. That'll give me 1290cal before I start gaining weight. And as long as I don't go over 800, I should still lose... but I'm not too torn up about it. I know that I'll have to avoid the cake too, lol!
So yesterday I went to the doctor again. This may be waaaaay TMI, but I had to get a wart removed from the tendon on my left heel. It was just on the surface but it was resistant to freezing (I've tried like 4x) and the doc ended up having to shave it off and cauderize it.
Anyway, the point of telling that loooovely story was that he said no running for a few days. So not only am I eating this really hideous food tonight, but I'm going to have to wait until Sunday night to go burn it off! Ugh! I s'pose I can still go row/strength train. Maybe biking would be ok. It's not bad today - just a little sore.
/sigh - Might be an extra week before that 125... But it's ok :) As long as I get there before the 15th!! :D (When school starts again)
Maybe I'll take a leaf out of Matty's book and just have a few drinks with that birthday cake ;D hehe. I'd wake up at 123.0 the next morning! (Just kidding :))
Haha Heather if that really worked, I probably would have lost weight this past school year instead of gained!!
On another random note, I think I've lost pretty much all of the weight I gained last year. I'm not positive about what I weighed at the beginning of the year though, so I can't say for sure.
I've got all this bloat on me from the birthday thing and because I'm still on my period. Still, I'm at 115.
I work at this bagel shop and we have a lot of regular customers, there's this one guy who comes in everyday and he's very very nice. Anyway, today he brought us a box of gourmet bakery brownies. All of the girls who I work with are skinny so we all groaned at the sight of these delicious gooey brownies! So the guy says, "Well all of you girls are skinny, you can eat some brownies!". It was so nice, but still, I ended up eating this brownie which I logged as 500 calories (I used the generic cc count for brownies and logged 2) but I'm SURE that was low...it was probably more like 700 or 800! Anway I made up for it the rest of the day.
Since I've been working at this bagel place I've been a lot more active, it's a 6 hour shift and I don't sit down once! I usually log it as 4 hours standing and 2 hours brisk walk and it increases my burn meter by about 500, making it so I can eat 1500 calories a day - and that's with no work out! Today I went rollerblading after work (430 cals) and I'm going to a club tonight where I'll be spending 5 hours on the dance floor! I need lots of cals today so the brownie couldn't have came at a better time :)
I have exactly 5 weeks before I leave for school and I'm dying to be 110 before then! Also, I think I'm getting my belly button pierced next week for a reward for myself - yay!!!
Hey guys!
Wow, haven't been over here in FOREVER. Uh oh...
So I've gained 5 lbs since June 6th. That's ALOT of weight in 6 weeks. My injured ankle had a ton to with this, for sure, but so did my crappy diet and complete lack of will to do any type of anything.
Any tip to get back on track?!
Hey guys,
I'm new to CC (been on for almost two weeks now I guess) and I found this group and read through the posts and I'd really like to be a part and have a group to be encouraged by/give encouragement :) Soo here are my stats.
Age:20
Height: 5' 10"
Starting Weight: 160
Current Weight: 156
Goal Weight: 145
Daily Calorie intake: 1500
So far I've been finding the ability to crunch the numbers and have a sense of "control" really helpful (I'm a math geek too, and I've taken bio and ochem...are you a bio major carrie?). But I was just wondering since everyone has different goals what is an appropriate weight goal?
Anywho, this group seems awesome and I'm ready to be in the best shape of my life :)
Hey Brenda!!! :) Welcome back :D 5lbs may seem like a lot, but if you can make yourself get back on the horse, you can have it gone in a month, no problemo! So don't be too worried. It's all fixable! Glad to see you haven't forgotten us ;)
Welcome Micheksh! I know, it's really empowering once you figure out how to make it all work :) I think an appropriate goal is just within a healthy BMI and the place at which you feel the most energetic and healthy! I hope we can help you reach it. :)
On a personal note, oh my gosh I have been HORRIBLE this weekend. Eating up to maintenance almost every day. I only had 400cal before going to outback, and I stayed away from the cheese fries! I had one slice of bread, and a shrimp/scallop griller with no rice and extra vegetables =) It was delicious! I also had a piece of birthday cake, since I felt like I'd been really good. It was a 10" Dairy Queen Ice Cream cake. I had a really small slice... CC said it was 360cal... but DQ's website said 500! Holy crap!
Saturday, I ate pretty well... but had a follow up slice of that cake. Which put me at 1700cal! Crap! I felt so bad about it I made myself go and exercise, which, thankfully, didn't hurt my foot at all. I was actually pretty sore this morning.
Sunday, today, I was good all day, and for dinner, my family went to Cracker Barrel. I tried to be good... 1/2 a small corn muffin, 4 grilled marinated chicken tenders, and some green beans... and fried okra >_< Whoops. I'm still 250 shy of my 1200 though, so I am ok.
Sadly, my weight has ROCKETED up around 129lbs again =((( I'm sure some of that is just bloat. I feel really bloated... I might have legitimately gained 1lb, but I'll try to be extra good this week and until I hit my goal! /curses the DQ Ice cream cake. It's ok, a few bad days isn't the end - I just have to be better to myself. I'm going to try extra hard this week =) Hope you guys are all doing well! :)
I put in NO effort all weekend so I'm with you on that - Heather: this is superweek.
Now, in the meantime, I'll probably way like...four pounds tomorrow. We'll see. SUPERWEEK BEGINS.
