Fending off The Freshman Fifteen...
For those in college, or those quickly approaching it, beware!!! The Freshman Fifteen - the bane of college calorie counters everywhere - is ready to take a new group of victims on campuses nationwide this fall!
For those who have felt the pain of the 15lbs of cafeteria food, hanging out in the dorm, not having your highschool extracurriculars, and just being too darned lazy to get out and about, join me in losing that weight! :) As an upcoming junior in college, i'm still waging war against the last 10lbs - who's with me?!?
*EDIT*

Aww... no worries, Carrie - I'm sure it'll be better after you're through with TTOM and give yourself a few days to recover. I got under my 123 yesterday, and ended up going to watch the game with some friends at buffalo wild wings... where I had a huuuuge platter of ultimate nachos, all by myself! And when I got back (I've been a little sick...) I decided to soothe my sore throat with a big bowl of edy's slow churned vanilla ice cream. 1700 calorie day? Check.
We all slip up now and then. Just get back on the horse :) You have to give yourself a day or two off occasionally. Just call it a little vacay from CC'ing, and don't feel bad about getting back to business. :) We'll be all better in a Wednesday or two!
Don't feel too badly. I've been sick myself the last few days and have indulging in my guilty pleasure (but only 1.5 oz at a time!), Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream. After a few days of eating it and realizing it made me feel better (even if only for a few minutes) I've just been "budgeting" it into my calories.
On an entirely unrelated note, I finally know when my sailor MAY be able to come home again. In the scope of things, it's not really all that far away so I need to get cracking on this weight loss/toning up thing! ![]()
Weigh in: 152.0 Over half way DONE! :)
I'm sick, and almost about to start TTOM...soo yeah I feel crummy. I even skipped class this morning which I NEVER do...but oh well, it felt good to sleep. Hope everyone is doing well!
Michelle
WEIGH IN:
123.0lbs
Weight Goal for next week: Maintain around 123.0!
Work-Out Goal for next week: Walk at least 1mile/day with backpack on campus + tennis + rock climb, or work out 2x!
No Change from 123.0 last Wednesday
Work-Outs since last Wednesday: 2x doing 40-20-15 + Tennis 1x + Walking at least 1mi per day 5x week w/ 30lb backpack
Sorry to post so late, but this is my weigh in from this morning :) I might not be quite as good tomorrow... I got this unshakable urge to bake today, so I made a bunch of funfetti cupcakes :P I only had 1/2 of one (they were big, so that was probably 200cal easy) and nibbled as I baked... all in all, it was worth it! (And it certainly made the boyfriend's day, lol) Hope you're all doing well! :D
Congrats Michelle on 152!! :)
Sorry for disappearing guys...I had an organic chemistry midterm Thursday and I'm behind in most of my classes so I've been studying like crazy. I got an A- on the midterm though :).
So I lost three pounds of water weight from drinking last night lol...so I guess I know why I get hangovers. Talk about being dehydrated. Anyway, I have a feeling it's going to be really really easy to stay under my calorie limit today, considering it's 2:30 and all I've been able to eat so far is a bowl of Special K.
Time to get back to work...
Way to go, Michelle! :D
Welcome back, Carrie, lol. No worries :) I'm hitting that midterm-test-every-other-day period too... its murderous 0_o. Good luck with yours and I hope they go well! Congrats on the organic chem midterm - sounds tough! I'll stick with my business and finance :P hehe.
On a completely unrelated note, I was soooooooooo bad this weekend. We have a 2 day "Fall Break" in the fall semester that, with the weekend, is 4 days long. Well, I went home and it was my dad's birthday so we were eating out a lot, and I tried to watch what WHAT I was eating, just not how MUCH I was eating. (Well, except the cake/ice cream/cupcakes anyway...) I left at 123.0, and returned Sunday (bloated, in the evening after Olive Garden) at 128.0! Yikes... I was at 126 Monday morning, and am 125.5 now (and about to go work out!) The goal is to be back under 125 by this wednesday's weigh in, and back to 123 by next Wednesday's! Fraternity formal AND halloween are this month, so its time to kick it into gear! lol. Oh, and I finally ordered my costume... ended up being the mermaid one I started with. :P Figures, eh? Just extra reason to get to the gym, I s'pose! Hope you're all having a good week! :D
Weigh in: 154... :( I don't get how I've gaind two pounds in a week...and I really don't think I've eaten over maintenance. I haven't had a god week cause I've been sick and TTOM so I havnet been counting even though I know I should. But my weight shot up to the 153-154 range and has just stayed there for the past few days. I don't know what I did but I don't even want to log my weight right now...
Any encouragement or thoughts?
Michelle
WEIGH IN:
124.5lbs
Weight Goal for next week: Get back to 123.0!
Work-Out Goal for next week: Walk at least 1mile/day with backpack on campus + tennis + rock climb, or work out 2x!
Up 1.5lbs from 123.0 last Wednesday
Work-Outs since last Wednesday: 1x doing 40-20-15 + Tennis 1x + Washed 3 cars one day (hey, that WAS a workout! lol), Walking at least 1mi per day 5x week w/ 30lb backpack
Fall Break got me :P But its ok :) I was 128 sunday night when I came back, 126 the next morning. One workout and 2 days of 1200ish cal have me back down below 125! Formal is next weekend, and halloween is the weekend after (and my costume has a sheer torso :O!) So I'm going to kick it into gear! The goal is to be 123 BEFORE formal, and I wouldn't mind getting in a few extra workouts before halloween. We'll just see how it goes!
Michelle, I know what a heartbreaker it is when you work so hard and see those numbers slipping up a little :( You just have to tell yourself that you're going to get back on track and then MAKE yourself do it. You're going to weigh more around TTOM, and when you're sick, you have to give your body what it needs in order to get better. Just keep a positive attitude and push forward! Don't feel bad :P I'm not logging my weight until I'm back to 123... purely because I hate seeing those big bumps in my graph :P Just tell yourself that YOU are in charge of your body. Control the scale, don't let the scale control you :) /supportive hug
Hey! New to this starting today but weigh in: 115. I'm really "petite" so that to me is overdoing it. On top of that, I have realized that it all goes to my gut? Ah! I've been doing sit ups constantly to get my abs back. Its my sophomore year and i gained freshmen ten! No biggie, I know but I would really like to gain a little more muscle mass. I am not too worried about my weight. It's just hard to find time to work out when partying or studying on my couch while watching a movie are always options. Besides, after a day of classes that don't get over until 8:45pm who has time to go for a run? Ugh. I am hoping this helps.
WEIGH IN:

Weight Goal for next week: Stick around 123.0!

Work-Outs since last Wednesday: Walking at least 1mi per day 5x week w/ 30lb backpack
So I feel terrrrrible that I haven't worked out at all in a week :( I keep making plans to, but with miderms, I end up in the library until 3, 4, or 5AM studying! /sigh. I'll get back on track this week :D This Friday is my fraternity formal, and I'm super excited, but I know that there will be lotsssss of drinking, which means a lot of calories. I haven't drank like... at all the last month or two, though, so I might just say forget about calories for the night, and drink a bunch of wine coolers (my favorite, next to mixed drinks :P) I'll just have to work it off before Halloween, so that I can get into my mermaid costume! :P hehe. Haven't heard from anyone recently, but I hope you're all doing well :) I know its a busy time, though, so no worries!! :D I'll try to post some pics from formal this Friday :)

Work-Outs since last Wednesday: Walking 3.5 miles total 5x/week with 20 lb bookbag; did a grocery store run with freshman roommate (hauling an entire grocery store run all the way across campus from where she has to park IS a workout. ;-) )
Between mid-terms and a few days of Fall Break last week, I didn't work out NEARLY as much as I wanted to.... and my weight gain reflected that. I'm going to try harder next week. I keep reminding myself that I only have 8 months to get back in shape before my sailor comes home again. I was also asked to be in a wedding in late-May 09. I'm SO excited... not only one good thing happening in May but TWO! YAY!!!

I spent the weekend sick and I'm working on 6 potentially final-grade wrecking projects in 5 classes. There have been some campus things going on that have kept me up late working on homework. Blah, I really dislike this time of year... it's always so crazy!
Hey guys,
I've fallen off the wagon, I'm up to 153 (from 151.2) which I know isn't a ton but I'm more jsut frustrated that I've been fluctuating between 151 and 153 for about a month and now I'm fluctuating more at the top end of that range. Which means I'm no longer losing weight which I think is due to the fact that I haven't been logging my food, I'm in college and we eat pizza, and there was halloween. So this is a little bit of a rant but more trying to use you guys to stay accountable and become motivated again to eat less (cause I like eating more SOOOO much better). I really like the weight I'm at (I would still like another 5-7 pounds off). So I don't want to gain my weight back.
Ok, well that was my rant, thanks for listening,
Michelle
I've sort of fallen off the wagon as well. I'm up to 148 (my lowest over the summer was 143). Basically I've just been eating way too much and the wrong things, and I haven't had time to work out because I've had exams basically every week. I'm getting back to normal now that Halloween's over, though. Basically I've just decided that I need to start respecting myself and my body more, and that eating healthy is a big part of that. When I eat crap, I'm only hurting myself, and it may taste good at the time, but I always feel horrible aftewards, so yeah lol. That's my little rant.
Hey!! :) I'm glad to see that you guys are back - its been lonely around here, lol. Well, I knew going into October that it would be a fattening month (Halloween, Formal, Fall Break...) Turns out my weight has stayed pretty steady, and I know why... I'm sticking right at 123ish, but I'm losing muscle! I haven't been to work out in almost 3 weeks and I feel AWFUL. I have GOT to make myself get back to the gym. I meant to go this morning, but as usual, sleep won that battle.
But hey, I guess we should look on the bright side. Michelle, if you've only backslid a few pounds, highfive for you! :) I know its frustrating seeing the same number on the scale, but at least you haven't gained it all back, right? Remember the first time you saw 153 on the scale while losing? :)
Carrie, 5lbs seems horrible, but it isn't the end of the world :) You could have that back off in 2 weeks if you tried, I bet. I'm sure that some of it is just increase in water weight. And like you said, things are getting back to normal now!
So, all that said, I propose we make November a "Challenge Month" or something. Starting tomorrow, since its our first November weigh-in. Everyone can come up with a little goal to be met by Dec. 3rd (our first December weigh-in). Just getting back on track could be a goal! :D What do you guys think? Interested?
Yes! I'm interested!! My goals are to work out 3 times a week every week this month (except I'm already behind this week, lol), and to get back down to 143 by December 3rd. My tentative work out days are going to be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
I think a big part of my problem was I let myself get behind in my classes and then I just went crazy with trying to catch up and study for midterms. The thing is that if I wait until midterms are over to get back on track, I never will because I always have exams, lol. It's one of the wonderful things about being on the quarter system. Also something I've been thinking about lately is that I'm always going to be busy, and I'm always going to have an unfinished to do list. It's just part of being an adult, and I have to learn to live with that. So the point is that I have to make taking care of myself a priority. I have to make working out and eating right and getting enough sleep all priorities, even when it seems like I have too much studying to do. So that's something I'm going to try to work on.

Okay, so you took the words RIGHT out of my mouth Carrie. It's the exact same way with me. As soon as I'm finished with one set of major tests, I'm up to my eyeballs studying for the next one. Priorities...
WEIGH IN:
122.5lbs
Weight Goal for next week: Stick around 123.0!
Work-Out Goal for next week: Walk at least 1mile/day with backpack on campus + tennis + rock climb, or work out 2x!
Up 0.5lbs from 122.0 last Wednesday
Work-Outs since last Wednesday: Walking at least 1mi per day 5x week w/ 30lb backpack + Walking 3 mi (Saturday)
Ok, so with the challenge month, I'm going to make my goal to go to the gym AT LEAST twice a week every weigh-in after this. Its still warm enough to play tennis (Its supposed to get up to 77 today! Isn't that crazy?) and I still have yet to rock climb... (The boyfriend seems reluctant for some reason), so I'm going to try to do some of that too. The real goal is to work out at LEAST 2x/week. I'm in the same boat with classes and exams, but Carrie's exactly right. That stuff will always be there, and you have to make time for your health! :D
