Fending off The Freshman Fifteen...

Quote  |  Reply

For those in college, or those quickly approaching it, beware!!! The Freshman Fifteen - the bane of college calorie counters everywhere - is ready to take a new group of victims on campuses nationwide this fall!

For those who have felt the pain of the 15lbs of cafeteria food, hanging out in the dorm, not having your highschool extracurriculars, and just being too darned lazy to get out and about, join me in losing that weight! :) As an upcoming junior in college, i'm still waging war against the last 10lbs - who's with me?!?

*EDIT*

August 4th, 2008

To anyone just seeing this topic, please know that you're still welcome to join us! There are voluntary weigh-ins each Wednesday if you're interested. Whether you're headed to college, in it, or leaving it we're happy to have you! :D

I'm not sure... if you've just recently picked exercising back up (as in stopped for a while) it could be gaining muscle? Maybe its just water weight from good old TTOM.

So, since I can't work over Christmas break (due to watching my sister for 2 weeks while my parents are gone to Hawaii... lucky...), I''ve decided to go work out as much as I can! I'd really like to go every day, but I don't want to overdo it. I've really lost a lot of my muscle, and I'd like to be in better shape for the holidays.

/sigh. I used to be able to do 100 crunches in sets of 25. Last night, I was pushing to be able to do 20 and had to stop at 60...

*apologizes to her tummy*

I'll whip it into shape over Christmas and have the incentive to keep it that way until at least Spring Break ;) Hope finals are going well for you all! only a few more days...

weekly weighin: 148.2 :) only three more pounds to go and I'm back on the losing track again,

Weigh in: 151.  It's been so hard to motivate myself to work out since I've been home...meh.

Merry Christmas everyone!!  I just got done wrapping and am finally about to go to sleep.  My weigh in today was 149.6.  I overdid it today, though.  My family came over and I just kept eating!!  I actually tried to make myself throw up just because I felt so sick from all the food.  It didn't work, though.  I feel a little better now, but I doubt I'll even be hungry in the morning.  That's the worst feeling, when you eat so much at night that you're still full when you wake up in the morning.  Needless to say, I'm going to try to practice a little more restraint tomorrow (today).

Hi everyone! :D Hope you ladies all had a very merry Christmas or a happy holiday if you celebrate something different :)

I've been back home and was holiday munching a lot... but I have tried to start doing some exercise here and there. I've done some aerobic tapes and got a 10lb free weight for Christmas - so I don't have any trouble working on my arms when I'm just goofing around watching TV! :P Yesterday (well, last night at 2AM)... I finally persuaded myself to go work out. I managed 3.2 miles in 32min, so I guess that's decent, considering how long its been. :P lol

I'm going to try to keep it up! My New Year's resolution will be to exercise more and to get in better shape!

I'll weigh in since I haven't done it in ages: 123.5 - still in the maintenance zone. :) Hooray! Though if I don't keep up the exercise, I'm moving my maintenance level down to 120 or so. Sooo... exercise, here I come! lol.

Happy New Year to all of you :D

After holiday weigh in: 150.4

SO I gained about 2 pounds over the holidays which isn't too bad :) considering all the snackign I did, I think I am really learning to eat smaller portions.

After Holiday Weigh-In: 107.5

I'm amazingly proud of myself... even with all the food, I managed to drop 4.5 pounds. Holy cow... only 2.5 pounds left. Soon it's maintaince, I think. Well, maintaince and toning up.

I'll still stick around though... I've found that having someone to be accountable to is helpful.

After Holiday Weigh-In: 120

So I'm down about 3lbs since I've just stopped eating a lot of the junk for a week or two. Its time to start working out again... What better time to start than now? :)

Welcome Carolina!!!!

I JUST got back from the gym myself... I'm the "skinny fat" too. I'm so close to my target weight I can practically taste it. Once I reach it, I'm going to start hitting the gym hard-core now that I've got a buddy. I've been avoiding the campus gym because it's all nastiness but now that the new one is open, I think I'm going to go check it out further... maybe tomorrow!

good for you!! Im doing more of my own routine in my room right now because i hate going to the gym alone. I have the whole red face syndrome even when i just start to work out. Its like every 10 minutes someone says 'are you ok?".....arghhhhhh it is so frustrating.

Well, well, well.

It's been a while! I don't know who remembers me - good to see Carrie and Heather still around, hey guys. Hope everything is well, you look great.

Anyway, I stopped counting cals once I hit my target weight. I figured I'd stick around just for the sake of it but I think I drifted off around page 18 or so. I was surprised to see this is still going on.

I've made the jump to a bodybuilding forum as I change my goal. Instead of losing weight now I'm opting for a slow gain and rather then a numeric goal I simply want to look good (I'd also like to be 200lbs/9% body fat, too, but eh). And I kind of thought to myself, how does it make sense to have a bunch of guys judge how good I look? Women have a better idea and are generally more honest so I think jumping back into this community will be good.

Anyway, for the new people, I'm Matt. I'm 20, and I've been the only guy in this thread but it seems to work out. I like hockey, soccer, volleyball, and drinking. I hope you guys can give me your honest thoughts as we go and if you've got any questions about nutrition, cardio, or workouts especially, feel free to let me know.

CURRENT WEIGHT/BF%: 183/16%

GOAL WEIGHT/BF%: 200/9%

So are we still weighing in on Wednesdays, or what? It's good to be back.

Hi Matt! Welcome back!!!

We were all doing really well until the holidays then everybody kind of disappeared for a bit... we're all slowly filtering back in.

Nice to have you back matt! weighins are still on wednesday...its just that most of us haven't posted them since the holidays..i'm all the way back up to 152 *sigh...oh well I did good today. Welcome to carolina as well!

MIchelle

Hey Matty!! Good to see you back :D Way to go on the weight loss; You look great!

I'm focusing on getting back into exercise myself. I've started nightly calisthenics and free weights for about 30 mins and I am going to the gym 3x a week with my boyfriend who is also trying to get in shape.

I just bought my bikini for the spring break cruise, so my deadline is March 14th :) I figure if I can keep it up, I will be set for the cruise! I quit calorie counting and just try to be healthy now... and so far so good! In 11 days, I will have been on CC for a year... that's crazy to think, huh? And in 3 weeks I turn 21! Woo hoo! :D

I'm back up around 20.5% body fat, which I'd like to get back down around 17.5% or lower... so we'll see :) I've become a case of skinny fat :P But I'm fixing it up!

Welcome to Carolina, btw! Wonderful to have you with us :D

Thanks guys. Hope everything is great.

Anyway, just to clarify: I don't want to lose weight. I'm trying to gain weight, muscle, and definition. I completely understand that I'm not fat whatsoever. But I feel like my body is very mediocre looking, perhaps slightly over. I'll let you guys be the judge of that. Anyway, each month I'll post a picture, my weight stats, and how content I am with myself on a visual basis from areas I feel are important.

Check my profile for the picture...current personal ratings:

Abs: 4/10

Arms: 3/10

Chest: 2/10

Whoa...hey everyone!!  Good to see you again, Matt!  So I haven't been on in a while because I stopped counting calories, but I am still trying to lose weight...I'm up to 152 (blah) with a goal of 140 by April 10th.  If I get down to 143 by the end of this quarter, I'll be back to where I was at the beginning of the school year, haha.  Oh well, it's still an accomplishment I suppose.  I've made a pledge to myself to get my butt to the gym every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and once over the weekend if possible as well.  I've been going right after work (I work 1-3 those days) so that I don't have any excuse, lol.  For some reason, I think I eat better on the days I work out, too.  Does anyone else find that?

Absolutely. If you're making an effort to exercise you don't want to just blow your results right off the bat by eating it away.

I weighed in at 183 this morning - same place I'd usually be. I don't see anymore definition and I haven't really gained anything, so that's that.

Weigh in: 150.6 which I think is down about a pound from last week. so I'm back on the right track!
