Fending off The Freshman Fifteen...
For those in college, or those quickly approaching it, beware!!! The Freshman Fifteen - the bane of college calorie counters everywhere - is ready to take a new group of victims on campuses nationwide this fall!
For those who have felt the pain of the 15lbs of cafeteria food, hanging out in the dorm, not having your highschool extracurriculars, and just being too darned lazy to get out and about, join me in losing that weight! :) As an upcoming junior in college, i'm still waging war against the last 10lbs - who's with me?!?
*EDIT*
August 4th, 2008
To anyone just seeing this topic, please know that you're still welcome to join us! There are voluntary weigh-ins each Wednesday if you're interested. Whether you're headed to college, in it, or leaving it we're happy to have you! :D
Hooray! :) I'm back from my cruise and here's this week's weigh-in: 120.4
Pretty darned good after a week on a cruise :D Just tried not to go crazy on the food and to keep active. Hope everyone had a great spring break!
Hey everyone :) I notice it's been ages since any of us posted... so I thought I'd stop in and say hi.
As a little bit of an update, i've been doing pretty well weight-wise, I guess. I've been super bloated for the past few days and my weight has been up a few pounds, which has me a little worried. It's almost TTOM, though, so I'll just be good and hope it goes away soon.
In the mean time, I posted some old shame and turned it into new inspiration! (old bikini pics... yikes... that I would only ever share with people on the same journey.) Just a reminder not to give up hope, and to remind us all that the battle is worth fighting :)
Miss you guys!
Hey!! :)
I haven't posted in a while mainly because my weigh-ins have been rather...sporadic lol. I'm trying some new things with my calorie intake and all that. I ran three times last week after not running in probably at least a month, and I was way more out of shape than I realized!! So hopefully now that it's getting nice outside I can get back into it for good!
Right now I'm hoping to lose ten pounds-ish before summer (which is still about 9 weeks away for me) so we'll see! :)
Well, for anyone that's still around, I'm back for more! :D I did so well at maintaining, but then took a 2.5 week trip to France where I indulged myself... But hell, when you're in France, how can you abstain?! Anyway, I'm back up a little on the scale (126ish as of this morning) and I'm back into the summer throw of weightloss and muscle-gain!
New regimen!
I'm going to be working out 3x per week, and limiting myself to 1200cal on days when I don't work out (1500ish when I do) just like before. I intend to lose a good 5-10lbs. Really, I don't care about the weightloss as much as I do the inches lost. I'm hoping to get back to last summer's measurements. I haven't taken them recently, but I'll post a new (less proud) blog, knowing that I'm on the road to being healthier again!
I'm super excited to get back into it and start feeling great! Anyone interested in digging their heels in again? Newcomers or old :) I'm going to stage a weekly weigh in (again). I think Wednesdays is still a good idea.
Let me know! :D
A little late in the game here, but I just re-actived my CC account and I'm back online to get in shape. (Haha, who would think spending time online would help lose weight?)
Anywho, I totally fell victim to the Freshman 15, I started my first semester of college in Fall '08 @ 120lb and rocketed all the way up to 133lb by the end of the year. So shameful!
I'm back on track and currently @ 128lb and keeping my eyes on the ultimate goal of 120lb again. (Btw, I'm 5'5'').
Luckily, I've always been a very active, healthy girl...who LOVES to eat. I love food and I would probably eat all the time if it didn't have consequences. At school the Cafeteria killed me. I wasn't eating unhealthy food, just unhealthy portions! Oink oink.
Anyway, I do @ least 30 minutes of cardio everyday and resistance training 3 times a week. I found a good book @ my library called "Star Quality: The Red Carpet Workout for the Celebrity Body of Your Dreams" by Rob Parr. Yes, I know the title is a little cheesy, but it's filled with good recipes and workouts and I think it's a very fun, helpful book.
Okay, I'm done with my little essay here, let's all work together to have an amazing and healthy summer! :)
Wow- so I looked at your before and after pics Hharris9 and I gotta say they inspired me! I graduate soon and would love to leave college at less than when I started. I gained 10 pounds since highschool and am finally only up 3 pounds! I want to get down to 125 tho which is 12 pounds away... I know it will be hard, but you did it and your results are amazing! Can't wait! I'll update when I reach 130 because that's my mini goal for now. : )
Leaving college smarter and thinner- what a combo! : )
You sound like you've got a good routine going, Cynthia! :) I'm hoping to get into one myself.. went for my first workout in AGES yesterday, and I'm feeling it today! But I like that feeling, because when I don't feel it, I feel like I haven't worked out hard enough and that I'm not really doing the best I can for myself. lol.
I know what you mean with the freshman 15! I gained the freshman 10 and the sophomore 15, sending me from about 130 to about 155. (Probably higher than that at times...) But there's no better feeling than being healthy! :D And the summer always seems like a very natural time to want to eat better and get in shape, so I guess its finally time to embrace it! :) Congrats on making it to 128! I'm sure you'll reach your goal, as active as you are!
Ccforme, thank you so much :) I never in my life would've let those "before" pictures see daylight, but I know a lot of people inspired me along my way and I want to do the same for others! I'm by no means in perfect shape, but that's not my goal - as long as I'm healthy, i'm happy! :D Way to go on working yourself back down! You'll reach your goal, no doubt. The trick is focusing on little victories. (My favorite and first little victory was not having to sort of *pop* my big winter coat down over my butt once it was zipped. Silly? Yes. Did it feel great the first time I realized I no longer had to do it? Yes!)
I find its much easier to get along when you chart your weight weekly too. (like with a weekly weigh in) Its hard to go day to day and see no change, but if you look back over a month and realize you were losing a pound and a half a week, its a lot more gratifying! I also reccomend taking your measurements if you work out a lot. I think I'm going to take mine tonight and post them in the next day or so. Then I'll know what I'm working toward!
Hope to see you guys here on the board :) I'm Heather, for future reference. Here's to a summer of exercise, eating right, and being dedicated to a healthier lifestyle!
WEIGH IN: 125.0
Weight Goal for next week: Lose 1.5 to 2lbs (weigh in at 123.0-123.5)
Work-Outs since last Wednesday: Went for my first workout on Monday! My next one is today :) I did 30 minutes of running, 15 of weightlifting, and 20 of calisthenics.
Work-Out Goal for next week: Go to the gym 3x. Cardio-Weights-Calisthenics should be 30-20-20 (minutes)
I normally do my weigh-ins on Monday, but for this purpose, I'm moving it to Wednesday. :)
Weight: 127.5
Goal for Next Week: 127.0-126.0
Workout Plan: @ least 30 minutes of cardio everyday as well as 10 pushups and 25 crunches. 3x a week is 15 minutes of resistance training for upper and lower body. Also, stretch out after all workouts.
Oh I definitely am! That is why I'm doing this weightloss journey in the first place, to lose 15 lbs of the crap I gained this past year as a freshman :/
I gained about 8 pounds over first year and now i'm working on changing my habits to lose the weight. It makes me sad because everyone used to compliment me on my body, but now i'm chunky and i feel like a failure.
I am a varsity athlete, so I'm looking to improve my fitness levels and adopt good healthy "clean eating" habits so I can become a lean machine!!!
I'm gonna weigh myself every week, starting at:
Weight: 155 lbs
Just thought I'd update...I am officially back to my highschool weight!
I'm happy and can't wait for even more success. I reevaluated my goals and decided that 129 would be plenty for me at 5'7. So I'm 5-6 pounds away from my goal and am ready to be there! ]
Good luck everyone!
Allright...my last post was the first of march. And well, not counting calories didn't work so well for me. I am now married :) but all the stress + honeymoon + snacking and having more food available means that I am now over 160. *sigh (I was 150 last time I checked in). So I'm back to losing 15 pounds, this time my husband's joining me (he made it up to 190 with everything that went on). Its good to see/hear from everyone again, and expect weekly updates from me :)
Michelle
Weighin 160.0 I found when I first started calorie counting I dropped the first five pounds really quickly, and then I evened out. So we'll see how this goes. I'm already losing!
This sounds like a good thread for me. Hopefully it will keep me motivated.
I'm 20 years old, going to be a junior this fall. I didn't gain the freshman 15, I actually lost weight my first semester and gained it back the next semester. Last year, though, I gained about 10 pounds due to a combination of stress and the constant supply of cookies/brownies/cake/fattening dinner food. Either I or my roommates would back or cook something delicious two or three times a week. After they would have a "taste" I would eat the rest of it over the next several days since I hate to see perfectly good food go to waste. It's amazing I didn't gain more! Now I want to get rid of it.
I'm currently 5'3" and 124 lbs. I want to get back to 112 by Christmas, which I should be able to do.
This weeks goals: Run for 30 minutes 5-6 mornings. 30 minutes of strength training 2-3 days. Limit dessert intake to 1 or 2 days instead of every day.
As an incoming freshman, hopefully this will prevent me from gaining that Freshman 15! Really don't need any more....
I'm starting college on the 21st. I'll be a freshman and I'm playing D3 softball.
I've been dieting so I can prevent the freshman 15. It's worthwhile so far. I've lost almost ten pounds in the past month, I'm going for 13 more. We'll see how it goes.
I'm in! I'm going to be a junior too and gained a few pounds. When I started dating my boyfriend i weighed 114 (summer before freshman year) and now I weigh roughly 125 give or take. Between drinking and binging on junkfood with my roomates I gradually gained the weight.
Over the summer I worked at a restaurant..a wing place to be exact and also a gym. So I've been trying to diet/workout but everytime I go into the restaurant I can't resist some tasty wings
.
School starts Aug. 24 so let's see how this goes!
Lets Go Mountaineers!!!
Weighin: 159.6 down from last wek :)
Okay, it's crunch time for me! I am about to start my last semester and my goal is to be at least 129 by this December. Good luck to everyone...especially me, I will need it! But I'm set and determined! And once Dec comes and I'm 129, then my next goal is for March to be 125 because of a wedding and I wanna look hot. LOL. I'll let ya know if I can keep it up!
GOOD LUCK!!
