Fiber calories in fiber supplements

Quote  |  Reply

I posted this question in the Weight Loss forum with not much luck.

I'm taking PGX Daily supplements - a fiber supplement that is supposed to keep you feeling fuller, longer, and stabilized your blood sugar levels. Each serving of 3 capsules contains 30 calories. I take 3 servings a day (90 calories). Should I be adding these 90 calories to my daily intake, or forget about it because they come from fiber?

Thanks in advance!

If you put it in your body, you count it. PERIOD

I would count it, because by american FDA standards the calorie content can be lower than actuality because they don't count the calories in Fiber, since Fiber is insoluble and therefore isn't digested. So there may actually be 30 digestable calories in the pills.

 does that make sense?

It does make sense. The only thing is, it's manufactured in Canada, and our laws state that the calorie count must include the calories in insoluble fiber. Having said that, though, I'll be cautious and count them anyways.

True, in Canada they count the insoluble fiber calories where we don't in US.  Personally, I would take the amount of carbs per serving (if any) and multiply that by 4 and only count that. I know my powder has a little sugar and is 15 cal per serving and add it to my total intake.
