Fiber really helps

Quote  |  Reply
I ate about 35 grams of fiber between fiber one cereal in yogurt, and whole wheat and veggies, and omg what a difference. I was full most of the day and it cleans you out. I thimk I ate too much fiber at once though when my body isn't used to it, so i will cut back a little and add little at a time. I even had a little cheat moment after taking my son to ER and had a sausage and cheeze biscuit, it really didn't taste as good as I thought it would. Either way I'm not sorry I ate it and still within my cals for the day so all is good! :) Spinach is good cooked in a little olive oil, pinch of garlic salt and a little apple cider vinegar....yummmmmm

I'll ditto that.  I'm vegetarian and eat a lot of beans, so sometimes I get upwards of 60g a day.  Better believe I'm regular!  As long as you drink plenty of water to keep it moving I think it's good for you to get lots of fiber.
true, lol but i have a belly ache, lol. Maybe I ate too much at once. It's not too bad, I will have more fiber for a snack.
Sounds like fiber does make a difference.  For one of the challenges I'm doing on here, I'm tracking my fiber for the first time ever- and I'm coming up way short of the recommended minimum for women (21g).  I've been getting 11-14g a day.  I don't like veggies (but force myself to eat some each day), and beans are even worse.  Any suggestions for other ways to get my fiber in?  Should I consider taking a fiber supplement?  The silly challenge now has me obsessing over fiber lol.
good fiber sources are fruits too.  raspberries, strawberries, stonyfield yogurt has fiber in it, vanilla silk has a brand with extra fiber in it.  my favorite way is to make a smoothie with frozen berries, vanilla silk and the yogurt.  tastes great and lots of fiber.
woo stonyfield is right down the street from me!

anyway...
Fiber one by general mills cereal has 14 grams of fiber per 1/2 cup, just add that to your diet if you like cereal.
I love cereal- I could live on it alone :)  I will look for that next time I go grocerey shopping, thanks!
Yes, just read labels on whole grain breads and crackers, some of them have a lot more fiber than you might realize.  Oatmeal is an awesome source of fiber.  If you take a supplement, I'd recommend whole psyllium husks, available at any natural foods store.  They're kinda nasty to get used to ... I take them in a glass of orange juice and it's like drinking super pulpy juice.  Awesome source of fiber though.
I love Fiber One cereal but was stunned to learn it has aspartame in it.
yeah, aspartimine is the only downfall, it is low carb too. 1 cup a day should be enough to fill fiber needs, evrything else after that is a plus. I eat lots of spinach, and I love california blend frozen veg. I buy frozen because fresh will go to waste in my fridge, unless I plan to cook right away, which reminds me I have to cook all that zucchini in the fridge, yummy.
Kashi makes a Go Lean Cereal that I don't think has any sweeteners. High fiber and protein.
I too have a really hard time getting enough fiber despite loving fruits and veggies. I added FiberCon tablets to my daily regimen, and I can tell a difference. Didn;t make my stomach hurt or give me other..... issues. (LOL) I swear too by a daily vitamin and green tea tabs. Just my 2 cents.
Eating food high in fiber and low in fat is the basis of the Weight Watchers plan, essentially, because as the OP mentioned it fills you up. Many studies have suggested that adults who consume the recommended daily allowance of fiber reduce their incidence of colon cancer and breast cancer by as much as 50% and some lung cancers by 30%. Pretty impressive!

The recommendation is 25 to 35 grams of fiber a day, but most adults consume only 10 to 15 grams! Just a little tidbit I picked up somewhere. :)
BEst source I found that easy and you get ALL YOUR FIBER in 2 servings.. Is Kellog's BRAN BUDS... its a cereal, but I put in in my yogurt for a crunch.. NO TASTE... and in my salads for CRUNCH> They say the # 1 satisfaction you get from food is the crunch factor.... If you dont eat any breads, cerelas, pastas, crackers, ect.. you dont really eat anything with a crunch!!! WORKS GREAT I eat it 2 times a day with yogurt and I get all my servings and IM REGULAR NOW.. no more laxative 2 times a week .....
hmm...so that's what i need to do....

i used the tools on here, and apparently i only average 17 grams of fiber a day..... time to change that....
Trader Joes has a cereal that's similar to Fiber One...kind of :-)  It's a high fiber cereal, not as much fiber as in Fiber One, but it doesn't have artificial sweetner either.

If you add a couple things that have higher fiber - any kind of cereal - there are lots that have 5+ grams of fiber in them - plus fruits, veggies, etc, you should find it easy after a while to get all the fiber you need! :-)
If you eat bread...Oroweat has a Double Fiber wheat bread...it has 6g of fiber and only 70 cals. per slice.
Just thought I would mention that the new crackers from All-Bran are great.  There are 5 grams of fiber in each serving.  And for 18 crackers at 120-130 calories, it's totally worth it.  The garlic herb are really good and the multi grain are good with a hint of sweet:)  I try to eat clean but sometimes you gotta have a cracker!
I love eating the Fiber One chocolate and oats granola bars. They really taste great (gives me my chocolate fix) and they have 8 grams of fiber in each bar. They also are not too high in calories...I love them!
Be careful w/ the fiber one bars though - I've had a couple friends who eat them and are in the bathroom for the rest of the day!  Just eat ONE! :-)
