What the #%&@, Fiber One?

Quote  |  Reply

I brought my boyfriend a bunch of Oats & Chocolate Fiber One bars yesterday.  As he bit into one today, he found a maggot.  T_T  If it had been me that found it, I think I would have died.

That's intense. . .

You'd be surprised at the things we eat without knowing about it.

one time i was drinking a slurpee from a local convenient store and found a bug in it, after i'd drank half of it. i actually cried, and i was like 14 too.

OMG! I LOVE(d) those things....BUMMER! I'll never be able to eat another one without totally disecting it first...Cry

one time i had a strawberry cereal bar for a snack, i opened it up and  little earth worms were right inside it. i could've died too! thank god i didn't eat it. ; )

I hope he took full advantage of the situation and sent a strongly worded letter of complaint to Fibre One?  Companies are pretty jumpy about health and safety matters and are usually make generous offers to keep things quiet.

Tip.... never accept the first offer.  The second and third offers are usually even more generous.

gi-jane is 100% correct-the company responsable will react immediately, they have to it's a health matter and the public is at risk.  Maggots in our food is a HUGE deal.  My son (12 at the time) ate some sweet & sour sauce from some unknown company and it burned his throat-even though it turned out to be an allergic reaction-it was sooooo scary for gosh sakes-the matter was responded to very quickly.  Thank you so much for alerting us to this possible problem with health bars-I will be keeping my eyes wide open before any bites from now on!

Hahaha I used to love Fiber One bars, but that's digusting.  But yeah, everyone else is right, you could get a ton of money from them!  :)  But that's so gross I will probably never eat one again without breaking it into tiny pieces.

Quick question...was the maggot alive? I don't know which one's worse, alive or dead.  Ew.

Oh, ew. I once found a little green worm in one of those nature's valley granola bars. It was a long time before I could bring myself to eat one again. Now they're part of my standard breakfast again but man. . . ew.

grossss!! and i just came from the grocery store with two of the value size Oats & Chocolate Fiber One bars (buy one, get one). AND the Nature's Valley Granola Bars... man... haha i wish i never read this. but i'll just have to keep my eyes open!!

I hope you get some kind of reimbursement!

UGH omg i can never eat another granola/cereal bar again LOL

I think it was alive.  Either way, I would have been petrified as bugs (of all kinds) scare me >_<.

Once I opened up one of those snack boxes of raisins to eat during class and since I wasn't looking down in it I was almost halfway through when I noticed it was full of little maggots crawling around. ewwwwwwww!!!! I feel disgusted just remembering that. I called the company and they said that's something that happens either in the store or during shipping because they're attracted to teh warm dry environment and go lay eggs in there .So they placed the blame on someone else but i got a bunch of dole coupons in the mail from them.

Either way, fiber one bars sort of gross me out regardless, have you ever read the ingredients list? it's not a health food at all, it's packed with preservatives. I stopped eating them after reading the label, again during class (haha can you tell I can't make it through one class without snacking?!) and I pulled out my snack and was bored so started reading the label and it has ethanol and who knows what else in it. I stick to all natural stuff now.

This is coming from someone who ate a bowl of maggots? Lol. Just kidding. Yeah, that maggot thing is gross. It reminds me of that movie the Lost Boys, "Maggots, Micheal... You're eating maggots."

I once found a *looooong* hair inside a Morningstar Farms corndog... wouldn't touch corndogs for a while after that!

When I was about 12 years old, I was eating some prepopped packaged popcorn and OMFG after about three mouthfuls NOTICED THERE WERE ANTS CRAWLING EVERYWHERE ON THE POPCORN

I ALMOST THREW UP

AND I CRIED. A LOT.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little....we just bought a box of bars this morning too.  Ewwwwwww.

This thread is succeeding at completely ruining my appetite...
That is beyond disgusting!

If any of these situations happened to me, I would start hyperventilating and vomiting everywhere.

I will be inspecting my food extremely well from now on.

Oh, and I'm loving the Lost Boys reference...nice..niceee.

Extra protein!  Tongue out

Boxes, bags, and cans are staples for us insanely busy people, so we're bound to run across these heart-stopping, gag-inducing moments eventually.  But!  Maybe the 'good' side is this means more Fiber One bars for you?

You could always look at it like this... at least sticking to healthy snacks and home-prepared meals eliminates a pretty large percentage of the unnameable stuff you'd be getting in Taco Bell food!

I might go for another box and check the batch numbering, though....

omfg! omfg! OMFG! Thats di*^%$%$*sgusting! I am going to die! I eat them all the time! I personally like the caramel ones the best! but ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! k maggots? wtf? how the (5&*%&^#&$^#$&^%* does a maggot get in there?

omg! Surprised<<<<  I am off to the bathroom!

I was eating some tuna straight out of the can once, and when I got close to the bottom, I found a whole dead (but preserved) cricket.  I haven't been able to eat canned tuna since.  I tried taking it to the store, but all they did was replace the can of tuna!  (Which I didn't want anyway.)  My suggestion is not to take the food back to the store, but to contact the company who makes the food.  You'll get a much better response I think.
