Fiber packed Lunch?

Quote  |  Reply

so i THINK i dont get enough enough fiber during the week and maybe thats why i have the worst (sorry) constipation during the week, anyone have any suggestions?

I THINK i need to stay away from cheese + meat, waht i ussually take now in a sandwich bc they MIGHT be the culprits, eventho i love it!  and no  fish, love it but i dont want to smell at work.

thanks!

Fiber One or All Bran mixed with vanilla or strawberry yogurt (and possibly cinnamon)!! Try it, try it, try it! It's SO GOOD!

for lunch at work? just take a baggy of cereal and mix? i dont have a kitchen w me or anything.

thanks

Yep! Bring a little bowl and mix it together... wait a tiny bit so the cereal gets a bit softer.

Or! You could bring a yogurt cup and just pour the cereal in and stir. =)

i always have yogurt also but no room in the container for cereal and i dont really have time to wash a bowl.

anything else? would just a peice of chicken be good for fiber+digestion? i really dont know-i dont have a microwave either.

thanks

Then don't take a bowl? =) Try disposable, perhaps?

I'm kind of confused though... what did you plan to eat your chicken on? You'd have to wash that, too, wouldn't you?

no, just wrap it in tin foil or a ziplock bag, or a container and bring that home but an open bowl, thatd just leak.

beans? i dunno, think they have lots of fiber, not sure which, BUT i dont want to be farty, theyre soooo smelly when youre constipated!

Haha. An open bowl wouldn't leak - it's yogurt and fiber. It'd harden on the edges, if anything. But anyway!

Personally, I wouldn't bring chicken if you can't nuke it. Bacteria begin to flourish on dead things around room temperature. Even with an icepack I'd be iffy.

Have you considered just taking a pill supplement or drink mix?

yea, i bring an icepack.

i have chronic constipation and take a prescription for it.  its just apparently not working and im thinking it may be what i eat and i read that meat+cheese arent good but i really dont know what IS good, not just a good lunch or wahtever but high in fiber or good for IBS i guess.

thanks

How about a sandwich with high-fibre bread? Cucumber sandwiches are REALLY good.

A baggy of /dry/ cereal?

Dried fruits like apricots, dates, prunes and raisins are good. Even fresh fruits, for that matter.

Nuts and seeds are actually really good as well.

I'm sure you could find a high fibre granola bar - isn't Nutrigrain high fibre? High sugar, too... but really yummy!

what about protein or would my regular yogurt suffice?  i think i heard dairy isnt good but i eat tons of it and dont know that i could eliminate that.

Personally, when I eat a lot of yogurt.. I don't go for DAYS. No joke. However, I love yogurt too much and eat way more than I should. Innocent

For protein, you could stick some canned tuna, salmon, chicken, ham, etc. into a sandwich? Have you thought about soy substitutes? Try tofu, perhaps? Unfortunately, it's mainly legumes with the high fiber/protein complex.

i wanted to stay away from fish bc of the smell and w the beans, well i dont want to get farty?

havent thought of tofu but im thinking just a peice of chicken or tofu or i dont know, maybe cut down on my yogurt or on my breads, this just sux!

I know! How about a veggie wrap/pita! =D Use a high fiber pita... stuff it full of greens and flavour it with HUMMUS! That's higher in fiber!

Or you could stick chicken in there, too.

i often bring little tupperware containers or ziploc baggies with me to school. my favorite protein/fiber source to bring with me is soynuts. they're fairly low-calorie as far as nuts go (190 calories for 40g, which is a LOT of nuts), and they also have tons of iron, protein, and fiber.

:)

Is there a reason it has to be lunch? Bowl of Fibre One for breakfast or an evening snack is what I do.

Fruit and vegetables! They're so easy....no mess, no fuss. Apples/grapes/oranges/pears etc - so easy for snacks or as 'dessert' after lunch.  Take a bag of chopped veggies, that would be fine to eat along side a sandwich.

Chicken is not fibrous.

many of the south beach diet meals have very high fiber content, as well as protien. i use the wraps (south beach living) from the refrigerated section. no microwave/no prep required. 50% fiber and 50% protien for the day for lunch.

All Bran makes crackers now! They have a ton of fiber. Prunes (old faithful) is also easy to take on the road. Adding flax seeds to almost anything is also very helpful and they have little taste. You can even add them to a PBJ. ;) Not that that is so healthy.

thanks everyone!

i chose lunch bc i think what i have now is causing a prob.

ive had fiber one, 2 servings, wahtever, it doesnt help.  prunes dont work either but i eat them sometimes just bc i like them.  ieat PB+J as part of my bfast so if flax seed is tasteless then i just sprinkle it on? im not familiar with it.

i guess i can swap the sub roll i use in my sandwich for a high fiber wrap or something.  i eat apples as a snack already so i wasnt really looking for fruits or nuts to be my lunch, i sont THINK thatd be a proper lunch but i dont know.

Fruit should sooo be included in your lunch if you want fibre - its completely normal to eat fruit at lunch time, or any time of the day.

Do you drink enough water?
