Where can I get the fiber wafers Dr. Oz recommends?
Asked by meg2242 on Sep 15, 2009 in Nutrition

On the Dr. Oz show today, he said to eat a fiber wafer before you eat your meal and it will fill you up so you don't eat as much.  Where can I buy them and what brand name are they?

Answer

I believe Dr. Oz recommends Metamucil Wafers sold in most drug stores, supermarkets and on-line.  Their fiber comes from psyllium husks and oat hulls.  Each adult serving of two Metamucil Wafers provides 120 calories and 6 grams of dietary fiber.  Of those, 3 grams are soluble fiber, which promotes feelings of fullness by passing through the GI track slower than other foods.  When eating fiber wafers, be sure to drink 8 ounces of liquid with every dose to maximize their effect.
