is it possible to eat too much fibre? today i got 100g of fibre (don't ask how, i have no idea...). normally i get between 60-80g. i know i have to drink lotsa water, but does anyone know if it is possible to have too much fibre in your diet?

When I go above 60 grams or so per day, I get SUPER gassy. actually, fiber seems to be making me progressively more gassy lately because I continue to eat the heck out of it. Other than the gas, I don't know if it will do anything bad. 
heart health recommendations tend to be 35 grams of fiber for women, but places like the Pritikin center recommend higher like 50 grams.  Although I think I saw 1 newsletter from them that showed how to get like 100 grams a day....

this is 1 thing where more is definitely better!!!

although it can lead to gas and bloating and even constipation ~ so be sure to drink lots of water to help alleviate that... and things like beano can help with digestion for the... er... um... gassy kinds of thingies ;)

LOL, how do you do that?!

Yesterday, I couldn't make it past 17 grams. Most days I get about 30 grams, and when I eat vegan, I get about 45 grams... but that's it.

Crazy.
I averge 50 - 60 a day.  I have to to keep from getting constipated.  Be sure to drink lots of water.

I don't think too much fiber on ocassion is going to hurt you.

I find I have to eat 40 grams or more to keep me going if you know what I mean! And and I drink 4 litres of water a day as well! And no gas either.

Actually, from what i've been told, IBS can be alleviated with extra fiber.

As for can you get too much fiber? i asked both my dr. and a nutritionist. Both say that you CANNOT eat too much fiber. They did say if it causes me problems with constipation to make sure i was getting enough of both kinds of fiber, soluable and insoluble. They also both said that eating plenty of fiber is one of the healthiest things you can do for your body.
