Alright, folks, I want a nice clean fight. No biting off each other's ears. No calling each other buttmunch or dingleberry. Keep it clean. Mild mocking is allowed.

So..

Which is it?

Pop?

or

Soda?

To the confused UK person: We obviously made the language so what we say goes. :P The way you guys say things reminds me of my great grandmother. (I'm not even lying this time).

One would have to say that there is nothing incorrect about ones Great Grandmother's dialect providing ones Great Grandmother speaks the Queen's English. :P

Depending on where you are from over here it's either:

Breakfast, Dinner and Tea

or

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

I think of supper as a small snack before bed.

Who cares what it is as long as its food!!!

What about pancakes, flapjacks and griddle cakes???

Flapjacks and Griddle Cakes are both different kind of Pancakes. EDIT: According to Wiki, this isn't true if you're Canadian. But as we all have seen above, the Canadians don't know what they're talking about ;)

Don't forget the hotcakes and silver dollar cakes!

Edit:  Add in the Johnny cakes too!

Nope "Johnny Cakes" or "Corn Cakes" as they are also called, are actually made with cornmeal, so they are a different recipe from hotcakes, flapjacks or griddle cakes.

Johnny Cakes are the things you find in urinals to deodorize them, not something you eat!

Griddle Cakes are actually another form of Soda Bread and not a Pancake at all, according to Wiki.

Thats called a puck!!

and not a hockey puck

No, it's a urinal cake that is placed in a Johnny-on-the-spot, hence Johnny CakeTongue out

pancakes, definitely.

honestly, i don't even know what a "griddle" is? *looks it up* oh. my grandma has one. :]

It's a pancake.

And regarding the last letter of the English alphabet:  I was doing a crossword puzzle today, and the clue was "The end of the ABCs."  The correct answer was "ZEE," not "ZED."  Because built off that last letter was "ESTELLES."  :-P

And there you go. Proof that Canadians are wrong ;D

We used to call it "fizzy pop" or "fizzy" for short!

and it's Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Tea is what you drink. My grandmother would serve "High Tea" on sunday's only, which was a small meal between lunch and dinner, consisting of cucumber sandwhiches and fancy cakes.

compoundkid "I think of supper as a small snack before bed" yup!

Aren't flapjacks those things made with treacle and oatmeal? my mum used to make them on a tray and then cut them into bars.

English people say "ZED" too...

And while I am on this theme...it is "Rubbish" not trash.

Oh and so you know, my purse is the small wallet I keep my money in... I put that in my "bag" short for "handbag" along with all my other girlie essentials.

My cell is really called my "mobile"

The back of a car where you put luggage or shopping is called the "boot"

We put "nappies" on our babies bottoms, not dipers (and a bottom is called a "bum" not a butt).

Speaking of bums the American version that is, the kind that wander around and live on the street.. we call them "tramps".

And we call tramps "Paris Hiltons."

Tramps are sluttily dressed (or acting) women.  LOL!

Breakfast and lunch... then Dinner and supper are interchangeable; my mom uses supper although I usually lean toward dinner.  Something small before bedtime is just a snack.

Its garbage not trash

Tramp is someone you hope your son never brings home

A boot is used to kick ones butt!

and luggage goes  in the trunk!

Tramp = Floozy = Hussy = Harlot = Strumpet = Slag.

Rubbish not garbage or trash.

Boot is what you put your groceries in on the way home in the car.

Trunks are something boys wear when swimming. Swimmers also work, but both women and men wear them.

Tea and dinner are interchangable, and neither is at lunch time.

A thong is something you wear on your foot.

Edit: and a root is something you do with your SO.

annnnnd.....

ZED.

Its a couch plain and simple.  I think chesterfield is an actual brand name in England

mince meat!!  Reminds me of the Friends episode where rachel made the Trifle!!!

I was born & raised in the Furniture capital of the world.  If you call a sofa anything other than a sofa, something bad will happen.  Dont EVER call it a couch!

Will the couch...oops....SOFA police come and arrest me?  **hehehe...nudges curlygirl**

no, but all the unemployed furniture workers in NC will come to your house and beat you with a wet noodle sofa cushion  :)

I grew up near Hickory too, curlygirl - across the river actually, in alexander county

That's awesome!  I grew up on the lower (Hwy 16) end of Springs Road.  I took my SAT's at Alexander Central!

A thong is what I wear so there are no panty lines  ;)

And I wear flip flops on my feet
Dinner is an hot evening meal; supper is a cold evening meal.
