How do you fight the intense hunger when its TTOM?

Quote  |  Reply
It's a day or two before my period and this is the time when I have such strong hunger pangs even after i just polish off a meal.  Does anyone else have this and if you do how do you cope?  I've been downing water and eating a ton of fruit and salad but man I'm hungry!

honestly?

if after 20mins, my tummy is actually making audible complaints, then I eat.  sometimes it's white cheddar popcorn, others it's doritos with cheddar broiled in the oven and salsa, maybe a chocolate dipped granola bar -- a "treat" type thing if you know what I mean.  I keep my water intake up (10 glasses a day, feels like my back teeth are singing "Anchors Away"), and by the time TTOM is over, I'm actually down a pound or two.  one or 2 days with a few more calories works for me.  I'm crabby and bitchy enough without adding hunger into the mix

just ask my luvie :P

hang in there.  isn't being a woman WONDERFUL???!!!???
A 1/2 cup serving of Sugar free jello or even Sugar free pudding w/ a 2tbsp non-dairy fat free RediWhip.  I could not have lost 14 lbs without those two items.  Seriously.

Somehow I always feel less hungry when my time of the month comes around. But I guess everyone's different.

I have a question for you.  Do you feel hungry or is it cravings that bother you? Cravings can be easily overcome - if you crave chocolate, go for some chocolate flavoured yogurt. If you crave just sweet stuff in general, stay far far away from your biscuit tin (or cookie jar, if you're American.. lol), and head for the fruit bowl isntead. Apples are great. They are sweet and satisfying. You could try a small bowl of chopped strawberries with a half teaspoon or a quarter teaspoon of chocolate sauce or syrup. Mix nicely, and eat leisurely. It's my favourite fix. Much on some light crackers (which have about 10-15 cals each) if you crave crisps or potato chips etc.

If it's hunger that bothers you, drink a tall glass of water and have a large serving of fruit or raw veggies (carrots work well). Then wait for a few minutes. You'll realise that you aren't hungry anymore. Of course, you can always indulge in some low-fat yogurt or have a piece of whole wheat toast with a little jam or some honey.

Lastly, I'd just like to say that it doesn't hurt to eat a little bit more around this time because you usually lose a small bit of weight after your period is over.

Sources: My mum - who is almost an expert. She has two daughters, both of whom started their periods before the age of 11. I started at 10.5 yrs and my older sis started at 9.5 yrs - runs in the family. My sis is 20 now and I'm 15.5 yrs old and we've really benefited from my mum's advice.

this is how i always know its coming...

i will feel like i am starving after eating what is typical and usually filling.

i allow little indulgences for the two days it happens...

sugar free hot cocoa...dark chocolate...frozen yogurt with strawberries.

feed yourself the little treats, otherwise you may kill someone.
I'm the same way....hungry, hungry, hungry at TTOM.  And all I feel like eating is junk food.  I used to deprive myself of junk food at TTOM, but I found I would just eat more other foods like crackers and cheese or peanut butter right from the jar.  I found I was eating way more calories in those foods than if I just allowed myself a peice of chocolate.  So what I do during this time is add more fruit, veggies, and fiber so I'm full and if I still feel like chocolate, I just allow myself to have some.
