How do you fill in the gaps?

This is my second day counting my calories.

Tonight I'm planning a dinner with my brother and his wife.  I've calculated the number of calories it will add up to and compensated for my breakfast and lunch.  Now, at 3:30pm....I'm starving...I have a 45 minute drive home from work....do I just hang in there till 6pm n drink water????

Well..... yes.  Or you can have a diet soda, or some other drink with no cal sweetener.

Better yet, you can revise your dinner portions (or choice of food) and only eat 66% or 75% of what you were planning to eat, so that you can have a snack now.

Or you can have a snack now and exercise it off between now and dinner.  But that may mean an hour or more of walking, and most people won't do it.

I'm not a good one to talk - I give better advice than I follow - but when you are serious about staying within your limit, you just have to find a way.  The first few days are the hardest.

I'm being really good today after a big day-long blowout yesterday.  Last night my son and I decided to have a body fat reduction contest!  He is aiming for 12% and I'm shooting for 23% (although I'd be thrilled with anything less than 25%)

I'd guess you're home and serving dinner by now...  How did you do for the rest of the day?

Next time, yes, water's great.  If you have a fridge at work, you could keep a bag of baby carrots, cut up veggies, or fruit until you get in the car and then snack on the ride home; or, maybe snack before work ends if it's okay, and your stomach won't be louder than the radio on the way home!  Keep the snack calories low, and you can compensate for them with a little extra exercise the next day to bring the calorie deficit in line.

Thanks for your reply.  Boy  - that was a rough afternoon.  For lunch I had 1/2 of my yogurt - so by the end of the day my stomach was screaming.  But, what I ended up doing was I had the other half of my yogurt and all was ok till dinner.  What I'll do from now on is to store some snacks at work.

Have a nice evening  :)

I will also remember about reducing the portions - great suggestion Wink

Congratulations are hanging in there - sometimes grit and determination is what's called for.  But I prefer frequent meals and occasionally accepting that my calorie total will be a bit higher than I prefer, over starvation.  Not sustainable.

I also have carrots, apples, turkey jerky (high sodium, I know) and green/herbal tea at work to keep the pangs at bay.  Extreme hunger = poor decision making, for me anyways.
