Filling Meal Ideas?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm looking for snack & meal ideas that will fill me up, but are still low cal. I am always so hungry, and need to start eating more substantial food that will fill me for a while. Thanks =)

Yoplait Source yogurts - 35 cal for about 4oz

Fresh fruit and veg -  fiber helps keep you full

Skim milk cottage cheese with sliced up strawberries and splenda/stevia/whatever you use to sweeten

Skim milk cottage cheese blended with salsa.  You can dip veg in this or spread it on a whole grain pita

A bowl of steamed mixed veg with a teaspoon of soy sauce and some pepper

give us an idea of what you eat now? l don't think 35cal is a meal tho @_tristesse

Hmm.  Are you really "hungry" or just need to snack between meals?   I need snacks myself, and the best idea for me that hasn't already been brought up is fat free popcorn or air popped if you can.  Spritz with 1 second's worth of Pam spray (7 calories) and garlic / pepper / whatever spice you like.  Very low calorie and high volume.

To  make meals more filling, make sure you're getting all your food groups!  Veggies, Meat, Whole Grain!

fabnina: I try to eat 5-6 small meals a day, consisting of a a low meat, low dairy, high fruit and vegetable diet. I aim for roughly 1400 calories a day. Generally for breakfast I start with a slice of whole grain bread, with peanut butter and a kiwi. Then an hour or so later I'll eat an apple with almonds. For lunch I'll generally have either a sandwich or salad, followed by a banana a couple hours later. My dinner consists of some form of protein with vegetables and a salad, or pasta. Then fruit or popcorn a little while after. The fruit just isn't filling enough between my bigger meals.

tealparadise: I'm usually quite hungry between meals, and LOVE popcorn. I've never thought of spritzing it with Pam and spices.. I will try! THANK YOU!

filling but healthy meals I like to eat after long runs (i also like strange food combinations)

wholemeal toast spread with marmite, then on top of that some cooked spinach and a small handful of cheese, then on top of that some cooked mushrooms and baked beans. If I am extra hungry I would add scrambled egg as well in there too somewhere - in this meal I get plenty of fibre, vitamins and minerals from the veggies, protein from the beans and cheese, slow release carbs from the bread, b vitamins from the marmite, small amount of fat from the cheese and olive oil that the mushroom is cooked in.  I always feel so satisfied after eating this!

sweet potato topped with tahini and tuna, unlimited salad on the side

home made refried beans, loads of cooked vegetables, on toast. Avocado and salad on the side

this is going to sound very basic, but it was *shockingly* filling:

last night i made a huge salad w/ baby spinach, romaine, tomatoes, cucumber, pepper, carrots, and about 4 oz of poached chicken on top. so filling and so delicious.

Cereal with fat free milk is good as long as it's high fiber.  Fat free tortilla (or low carb) filled with lean chicken or turkey and filled with lettuce, fat free cheese, veggies, etc.  I make a grilled turkey wrap less than 200 cals and 4 grams of fat.  Always add a big piece of fruit such as an apple to your meal and you'll stay full for a long time.  Ditto with veggies.  Egg Beaters...you can have the equivalent of 3 eggs for less than 100 cals...add fat free cheese, veggies, etc.  You can make a huge omelette very low calorie!  Fat free Yogurt with honey nut cheerios on top to give it crunch.   I've basically lived on the aforementioned foods the past 6 weeks and I've lost 16 pounds.

Old news, hon, but also make sure you've been getting plenty of water drunk during the day. I was just STARVING all day, today and it wasn't 'til mid afternoon that I realized I hadn't had much water. Really helps. I eat quite a bit of salt still, too-(I love food. I can't bloody monitor EVERYTHING or it'd take the joy out of my life. Wink) and the H20 helps me be able to without retaining water weight.

Lunch/Dinner Ideas: Chili and soups are my new best friends. And you can do fun things with the leftovers... Like today I had 1 cup of chili over 1/4 cup of white rice with 1 oz cheddar cheese and 1 Tablespoon of Sour Cream... Totally numbly, filling, and around 530 calories. (Easily skip the cheese and sour cream, but I felt like splurging today.)

Chicken Fajita Wraps: 1 wrap, 1/2 cup of chicken, 1/4 cup veggie mixture, 1 oz cheese, 1 Tbs sour cream, 2 Tbs Salsa. Again filling and 356 calories.

Do you like veggies? I just fell in love with Ratatouille. I found this recipie on CC and it's absolutely amazing. I can't make it link, but you should be able to copy and past it into your browser. I add lemon pepper and tarragon. It's just delightful.
