Film Club Movie 1: Osama
Okay, time to post! who watched it? I did, it was interesting... I found it to be a very sad way of life. I just wanted to take all those women and bring them to the US to get some help. Is it still happening? Does anyone know? I am not sure but did they say exactly where this place was? I did not catch it.
Thanks, Joan
I guess I'll ask one question [SPOILER]: Was the Mullah that she's wedded to the same old guy that gave the boys their hygiene lesson?
agimwinba: Good question!!! That is what my husband and I kept asking each other and then we figured it out and it was!!! That old jerk!!! What he did to those young girls, so sad for them to have to go through that.
jewels: It was okay, I would not say I enjoyed it, it was a very sad movie. I did watch it to the end and it kept me interested, but very sad to say the least. I'll be interested to see what you have to say.
My sister was actually very moved, tearful, at the end of the movie. She couldn't believe the film ended without the Americans rolling in and kicking some Taliban fannies.
I'm not a fan of Mel Gibson style movie violence (I almost barfed during Braveheart), and I know I'm gonna sound crass, but the first time I saw Osama I was disappointed there wasn't more Taliban violence--we didn't see any marching women getting shot, the actual stoning of the woman wasn't shown, no heads rolled. Plus, the repeated flashbacks to the girl jumping rope annoyed me, don't ask me why. Anyway, seeing it a second time I do now appreciate the movie's subtle, artistic qualities: the director (who also wrote it) did an excellent job.
And jbart, now that I see that the old guy was one and the same--that was a pretty clever plot device, I must say. She really caught his eye during the hygiene scene--he calls him/her a 'nymph', and then he "rescues" her. It is better than getting stoned to death, I guess.
(and i have not cheated and read any of your posts yet...)
Hi dagi and jewels. Dagi, thanks for the post on Molly, I really apprecaited it. Jewels, bummer for you not to get to watch it, did you try the library? And thanks for the post on Molly too. We really miss the little girl.
agimwinba, I thought that the director did an excellent job also. Yeah, what a creep that old guy was. But I do guess it is better than being stoned to death.
What movie are we going to watch next? I am ready.
So do we want to watch Benny and Joon next? I would like that.
When should we watch it by? I could watch it by Sept. 1 or 2. How about all of you?
YES IT WAS.
WHAT BAD LUCK THIS POOR CHILD HAD.
