I finally feel full and not guilty
Today for lunch, After I ran on an eliptical for about 500 calories and walked on incline on a treadmill for another 300 calories, I decided to make a HUGE salad.
I used a full head of iceburg lettuce, 3 tablespoons of this low fat dressing that has 40 calories per tablespoon and only 2.5 grams of fat per tablespoon, I used 1/2 a cup of grape tomatoes, 1/2 a cup of Fat Free Low moisture shredded mozzarella, 1/2 a cup of broccoli sprouts, and a whole lot of salt substitute, fresh ground pepper, garlic powder, and roasted garlic that was dried!!! I also had about 5oz of cubed Turkey Ham in it... should of used low fat turkey breast, but I worked out this morning hard and could use the protein and fat from it...
It filled up this huge bowl that I have that could fit salad for an entire family of 4!!!! lol....
But It felt so good to eat and eat and eat that much salad... and I don't feel guilty because it wasn't terrible for me at all
With the food being not terrible for me and me feeling this full.... I'm loving it...
I swear, that when I used to over eat, it was because I liked the feeling of being full. I think that it is our animalistic nature to eat till we are full. If you look at animals, when they make a kill, they eat it until it is gone. Then they lay on their asses being lazy for a while until they feel like hunting again.. lol..
Only if it were so easy as that in society... lol...
But, since it's not... I did research on filling foods to trick my mind into feeling full when I get hunger pains... Salads are where it is at!!!! or water, or broths, or apples.... but in my opinion, broths taste horrible by themselves, and apples are full of sugars...
They both help with the hunger, but not for very long... I found that protein helps my hunger the most.... protein, or quantity.... so... i make salads!!!! or cabbage with melted cheese on it...fat free cheese of course.... Cabbage and leafy lettuces are low in calories period... but they do the job of tricking my stomach into thinking i ate a 5 course meal... lol
well... I'm full still and it's been like 40 minutes since I ate, finished my coffee, now i'm going to go shower and get ready to go out on my day off!!!
i'm happy for you. i hate to give you a "beware," but i feel compelled. when i first started dieting, it was cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, grape tomatoes, broccoli, celery. i'd have slices of 25 calorie cheese and "gimme lean" soy sausage. all the time.
i don't know if your body wises up to your tricks or what, but this just does not work for me anymore at all. and in fact, it's nearly impossible to get me to eat these foods anymore, bec they fill my stomach up, but i'm still starving afterward; after twenty minutes, i'm ready to eat again. it's such a hassle that i don't go near them (i force myself to have a can of vegetable soup every day).
my suggestion would be to take it easy. salads are good and fun, but if you rely on them to fill you up, it's possible that you'll be less than satisfied w/the results. i may be in the minority on this one, but that's been my experience.
I love me a good salad. I personally keep my salads pretty basic; lettuce, tomato, cucumbers. If I've worked out I'll add some cheese, bacon bits or chicken or taco seasoned lean ground beef, depending. I've recently learned that I really like using salsa as a dressing when I use the lean ground beef. It's much lower in sodium than most dressings and you don't notice that and it give a good bang. It also has the benefit of being about 10 calories a serving. Otherwise I usually stick to a light Italian.
I eat way more salad in the summer personally.
To help keep you full with variety, any meal that is loaded with vegetables can do the same thing...fill you up. \
i love my vegetables and fruits - practically live off 'em, but i'm trying something different right now. small quantities of calorie dense foods quite often in an attempt to shrink my stomach and give me that "full" feeling.
also, the ingredients you're putting in your salad are great, but I would opt for a little bit of fat if I were you. fat makes you feel full longer.
i haven't gone off mine yet and i haven't stopped feeling full.. but maybe its because i mix mine around a lot and use different ingredients...
