finally figured out the trigger!!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, yeah..I have been posting a topic quite frequently...but now I finally figure it out!

I gained soo much weight because of snacking....and peanut butter. I'm trying to get rid of bad snacking, but I might have to wait until swimming season end because I don't have time to prepare food for myself and these junks are the only kind that I can grab and eat..and did not required a fridge. (I do eat a lot of apples and oranges, by the way.)

Now.....here is my trigger

My school force all boarding students to go down to sign in for breakfast and dinner. The sign-in sheet is in the cafeteria and when I walk in....I see cakes, milk, peanut butter and so on. Today, I was not hungry and I was at 1400 calories...(not much protein today) but when I went down to sign in, I ended up have a small potatoes.....that was ok...then some mini cookies with a bit of cake icing.....those sweets added up to almost 500 calories! whoa! I forgot that calories add up fast!

And I usually have sandwich for lunch, which I would always toast my bread....and peanut butter, jelly, fluff, butter, and cream cheese are all there next to where I get my bread. When I see all my friends eat all of those....I get some. Not even a tablespoon of each..but they all added calories and make me snack more!!!

When I was at home, I have pb bottle, jelly bottle, and cream cheese...and I never finish them! I don't even want them. I never finish my loaf of bread in time (they always expired before I eat them all). But now....when I go down to eat at the cafeteria and SEE other people eat them...it just makes me eat too!

Sorry for the long post (again)...but any suggestion on how to avoid these trigger would be nice.

Congrats for figuring out what's causing it! Yeah, calories do add up MEGA fast. Sucks, doesn't it? lol Are you allowed to bring your own food to the cafeteria and eat it? They may be able to make you sign in (which is stupid), but they certainly can't force you to eat their food. Laughing

Well the first step to overcoming any problem is admitting that you have one, so well done on that.

It seems like you're a social eater. I get like that sometimes too. I see other people eating indulgent stuff that normally I wouldn't think twice about but seeing them eat it, I start thinking "well, since they're eating it and not gaining anything from it, I can eat it too." But a lot of times, it starts triggering me and I end up binging and feeling miserable, physically and emotionally.

Really, the only thing that's helped me is realizing that I can enjoy all things in moderation and as long as I don't just go full out, I can have anything I want. Just take control of your situation and you should do fine.

yes, I can bring in my own food...but I don't have that much option, though. I usually come back late from swimming and I can't go out to eat because I have a study hall hours at night, so my quickest way is to eat there. I don't have a fridge...so that's the sucks part. But, I definitely I should buy some food from outside and bring in with me when I go to sign in! I have to remember that when I stop swimming in March!!

If I was under 110lbs I'd alow my self some peanut butter every now and then!

I know it's hard, but try not to worry too much about calories and focus on heath. If you're swimming you need to make sure you're getting enough carbs and protein after; and while the cakes are worth avoiding there are worse things to snack on than peanut butter. For someone your height, weight and age 1400 calories is still on the low side.

It might be worth thinking about what counts as a snack and what counts as a binge. If other girls your height and frame are eating the same portions of these things it might just be a problem in your head.

I was under 110 lbs before....now I'm at 120 lbs....10 lbs gained  Undecided

But thanks for reminding me not to eat too low calories because that too little calories wouldn't be good either!
