Finally losing!

I'm a ol' married 55 yr old from Oklahoma. I was skinny (510", 120) until I got pregnant, and then never saw the good side of 200 again. I have gotten as high as 300, then lost 96 lbs after changing from being a bakery manager for 15 yrs to a job that required a lot of physical activity. Unfortunately, I now have an office job due to bad knees, high B/P and diabetes. (wonder why?) My weight had reached 254 when my (slim) brother told me about this site. I had no idea I was putting away that many calories a day! I am able to plan better and eat better now, and am beginning to exercise more. I take 6 hrs a semester towards a degree in CIS, and in my spare time I paint, am a published gardening magazine author,  and train a 5 month old Schnauzer puppy. Since I am just starting, I'd enjoy hearing from both newbies and those who have reached or nearly reached their goal!

I've pretty much always a little over weight.  And during my teens, it really crept up.  At the beginning of my senior year I started my first diet.  It was a combination of changing what I ate and taking fiber supplements.  By the end of the school year I reached my target weight.  Over the next 10 years getting married and having 3 kids I had added 125 pounds totaling 260.  I had done my share of yo-yo dieting, Atkins, weight-watchers, etc .  I sort of gave up for awhile.  My doctor switched one of my meds and added a thyroid supplement. Some of the weight came off without me even noticing.  Then at the beginning of 2008,  I began doing some research about healthy eating and weight loss.  That's when I found CalorieCount.  Learning exactly how weight loss happens helped me realized what I needed to do.  It didn't seem like such a big chore.  And I didn't have to be afraid that a little "cheating" within reason now and then was going to add 10 pounds.

So anyways, I'm 33 and 180 at the moment.  In Feruary I was 218 and spent about 4 months working on my diet.  I lost about 40 pounds.  Then I took a break--basically maintaining (may have added 5 pounds, it's hard to tell because my weight fluctuates during my time of the month).  As of this Friday I'm starting back on the diet.  I've got 40-45 more pounds to drop.

Good luck to us both. :-)
