Finally got my period back but...

Quote  |  Reply

Hey, last month I got my periods back after losing them after getting too underweight. I was so happy though they only lasted about 3-4 days and were super light..but anyway it's a month later...31 days to be exact and they haven't shown up again..I was just wondering if this is normal? Are they trying to stabalize themselves or something? I used to get them every 28-28 days before I lost them and I'm beginning to freak out again....

Thanks.

From my experience of this, when they do come back they are quite irregular and light...but just keep eating healthily and maintaining a healthy weight etc. and everything should start to sort itself out.

This is just my experience.

Okay! That's what I'm doing at the moment :) Thanks for your help!

I am in the same situation, have been for about a year. It will come back just don't lose any more weight, try to maintain. That is my problem, if I dip even slightly below 114ish it goes away for like 3 months! Good luck. :)

Rather than maintain, why not deliberately gain an extra 7lbs 'insurance' instead?..... That would seem to make a lot more sense.

The same thing happened with me!  Just make sure you eat your healthy fats -- olive oil, more meats, avocados, nuts (if not allergic)!

The'yre going to be irregular at first. It's normal! Whenever your hormones are getting back in balance it takes a long time to stabilize. It's okay - you GOT it and that's what's important! Keep getting your fats!

I actually have a somewhat related question... I lost my period about 2 years ago from losing alot of weight.  I am now at a healthy weight but still run 6 miles 6 days a week.  Now, when I go on birth control I get my period, but if I am not on it I dont have my period.  I have been going on and off the pill for the past 2 years because I dont like to be on it, but I am on it now bc i know i should be. My gyno doesnt seem too worried, but has anyone else experienced something like this & is this considered normal?

Sorry hon, you either have to gain some more weight or cut back on running intensity - or both. Some people are genetically designed to be less athletic or carry a bit more weight (I'm one of them!), and their bodies will not function properly without that. If you really want your period back, maybe switch exercise a bit.

How hard do you run? How many minutes/mile? Do you run hills? How old are you?

Thanks for the response...I just turned 25-- I am 5'4 and range in weight between 112 and 116-- I have always been athletic I was a gymnast and a runner in high school and college I got my period a little later but never really had a problem with it and was regular until I went from about 120 or so to 105 when I was like 23, which isnt a ton of weight loss but i guess for my frame it is. I don't really run that hard.  Typically it is on a treadmill and I do about an 8 minute mile

Are you kidding me??? an 8 minute mile is running really hard!!!! I'm a distance runner so I do 8.5mph and its fast. Talk to your gyno and ask them to take some blood including thyroid hormones and estrogen. A little extra weight plus consuming the right amount of fats will help.

Thanks for your help! I was just wondering how irregular? Like a couple extra weeks? or months? because I still haven't got them again yet...

I think it really depends on the person, but for me it was a couple of weeks either side of when I was due so I could be on a couple of times in quick succession and then not again for over a month. Just be consistent and persistent - healthy fats, healthy caloric intake and healthy weight.

The fact that your body still needs a lil help to get a regular cycle might suggest putting on a couple of pounds insurance as gijane suggested.

They're just my thoughts. Take care
