Hello Everyone,

Sheila may have lost her mind and given me moderator access, so hopefully she will not regret that choice. One thing I've always wanted to use the CC community for beyond all the handy-dandy calorie tracking tools is to find people who live close to me where we can motivate each other by setting a bi-weekly or weekly or however ambitious we are fitness date. This could be gym-date, running, tennis, swimming. I'm not particular I'd just like to meet someone who has some fitness goals and hopefully meeting each other. If anyone else feels this way I think a regional forum is the best place to do it.

Fitness Level: Average, no disabilities, not superwoman either. 

Fitness areas of interest: Many, gym, cycling, swimming, tennis, boxing, martial arts, yoga, anything that is not step class (I'm horribly uncoordinated)

this is an awesome idea... it's always good to have a workout buddy although it's not always easy to find someone with similar schedule or preferred activities.

 

City/Town (be specific if large city): Toronto (Bay & Gerrard)

Fitness Level: low to average

Fitness areas of interest: 30-45min of gym (cardio+calisthenics), swimming, hiking, pilates, aerobics... but preferrably free or at minimal cost

Availability: weekdays 5-7pm; sunday AM

I don't have a gym membership because we have a gym in the building, it's not big but it's decent, although this way i'm not motivated financially to keep going... i also started doing bootcamp twice a week, completely indoors and quite inexpensive.

Would be interested to hear how everyone is finding ways to stay active in the cold?

does anyone here do or like to try in-door climbing?


I tried it for the first time last weekend, would love to find a climbing partner... it's an excellent total body workout, but simple enough to start! I went to Rock Oasis on Bathurst and Front, very friendly and energetic place.

I joined this site today...what a fantastic resource.  Better than weightwatchers.com and free...wow!!  I would love to find a fitness partner, it's so much more fun to do these things with others.  None of us who replied to the thread live particularly close, however not too far to meet once or twice a month.  I'm new, so I hope this isn't out of line, but would you be interested in meeting once or twice a month?  There is a great aqua fit class at the Jimmie Simpson Community Centre on Monday and Wednesday at 7pm and it's free!  I love going there.  There are several free community centres around offering all kinds of fitness activities.  Email me if you'd like more information.  Here are my details:

Well I think I'm going to cross-post here and add details if necessary:

I'm a 23 year old overweight female looking for running partners.  I'm 246 lbs and 5'6", if you need a visual.  I'm looking for someone (or some people) to start (walking) running with because I feel that having a group or person who I'm accountable to (and can call me and ask where I am) will help me get my big bum in gear.

Now, before you volunteer for this task, you need to know the following about me:

  • I'd like to start February 1st (or ASAP, lol)
  • I do not currently run, so someone at my level (i.e. an overweight non-runner) who wants to start would be beneficial
  • I am not available Wednesdays, but every other night and days on the weekends are good.
  • My goal is to run 1k by October 5th, for the CIBC Run for the Cure.  This will be my 3rd year participating, and it's time I ran instead of walked.
  • A friend from out of town is also participating and may join us from time to time.
  • I am not planning on doing c25k or any other plan - just going with my gut (so to speak) and doing what feels good.

I'm located in downtown Toronto (underneath the CN Tower, pretty much) and have found that Queen's Quay is a great walk in the winter.

I don't have a gym membership because we have a fully-stocked gym in our building - and I'd love to have someone to work out with there too, so if you're comfortable with that then let me know!!

Heya, I'm new to this group so I guess I'll start here.. . I think this buddy thingy is a great idea!
