Where do I find a good personal trainer?

Quote  |  Reply

So I talked with my parents and have decided that I am willing to pay for a personal trainer this summer. I think it would really help me get a great workout plan, keep me more accountable, and allow me to feel really good about myself by the end of the summer, and hopefully allow me to get the body I really want. Anyways....I have looked online and just have found like websites of various places around me, but I have no idea who to choose. I know some trainers are great and some are horrible and just muscled-up people with no real knowledge...so does anyone know how I can find a good trainer? Is their a website for this or something? Thanks!!

Where do you live?

Leigh Peele wrote a pretty good blog post about how to hire a trainer a while ago.

That was a very good blog post. I agree completely with it..esp. the Assessment part and the private/local gym vs commercial gym trainers!

On a side note, also getting feedback from past clients, etc..is very beneficial.

Everyone of my trainers are also certified dieticians and it amazes me how many trainers give out nutritional advice without having anything more than Google as their source of education!

Where do you live?

OK thanks so much.

I PM'd both of you with my location, hopefully that will help!

I just checked out www.fitnesstogether.com and plan to start at the local franchise.  I think they have locations across the US.  Good luck!

Thanks for the link, sadly none are close by. I am meeting with different places over the week and weekend so hopefully I will find someone I like.

Have you tried Equinox?

A smaller that is owned by a personal trainer and all they do is personal training...[I recommend this one] is Prime Physique.

I wasn't sure about equinox, it has a reputation of being super snooty so I was a bit intimidated, but maybe I can stop by and see what their training services are, thats a good idea,  don't know why I didn't call them sooner since they are so close

THe prime Physique one is sorta far from me but I'll give them a call since it looks good and seems to have the right philosophy, I wouldn't mind driving a bit if it's worth it.

Thanks fitnessgirl for the ideas!

Oh fitnessgirl, how did you find out about prime physique? I didn't find any reviews of it or anything, so I was just curious. thanks!

Considering what you are looking for...go with Prime.  They are HIGHLY qualified trainers with degrees in nutrition, as well.  And, it's all they do. Equinox is a bit pricey for many not to mention, you will be getting more of the 'commercial gym trainer'.

I think the drive is worth it. :)

OK thanks so much, I never would have found them so I am glad you let me know. I will call them today about price etc...as that will play a role and yeah equinox is really expensive in general; hopefully Prime will workout, thanks so much, I'll let you know what happens with them!
