How do I find the ID of an item in your database?
Asked by stefsw on Jan 02, 2011 in Weight Loss

For example, I am trying to analyze a recipe and when I entered Muir Glen fire roasted tomatoes it does not recognize them even though they are in your database. I tried even just entering tomatoes, diced and it still was having a problem.

Answer

A food's ID number appears at the end of the url.  The url for Muir Glen Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes is http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-muir-glen-fire-roasted-diced-i104093.  Whenever you create a new recipe and the tool does not recognize a food, place the food ID number in square brackets and enter it as an ingredient.  For instance, your tomatoes are [104093].  On the ingredient list, enter the amount (e.g. 8 ounces) [104093] to recognize the food.  Read our FAQs about entering and analyzing recipes at the question mark sign.
