How can I find the time to eat six small meals a day?
Asked by anonymous on Sep 19, 2008 in Health Conditions

After successful esophagus removal to treat cancer, I am now supposed to eat six small meals a day.  Plus, I have an active job.  How do I best keep my weight up or even gain some?

Answer

When the goal is to eat six small meals a day to gain weight, people usually drink nutritional supplements in-between meals.  Supplements need no preparation and they provide a significant number of calories.  Drink a 4-ounce serving accompanied by a small snack.  High-calorie snacks include peanut butter and crackers, a half sandwich, cheese, nuts, and trail-mix, all adjusted for any diet intolerances you might have.  It’s a good idea to schedule your snacks so you don’t forget to eat them and always eat a bedtime snack because it won’t affect your next meal.
