Finding it difficult because of where I live
Hi there! I now live in India, and whereas before when I was managing my weight I could switch to those low calorie products, fat free treats etc to satisfy cravings, such things are just not available here and many things here are fried or full of sugar. I do realise that I have an endless supply of fresh tropical fruit but sometimes that just doesn't cut the mustard!!! I did well on Weight Watchers in the UK as I could buy great low fat/sugar treats. I guess I am going to have to surf the net for low cal treats I can make with products that are available here. Any suggestions?! I used to live on rice cakes and light soft cheese and found low fat yoghurts a Godsend. I need to find something here that I can snack on that will feel like a treat without all the calories. I would like to lose 18 pounds. I do go to the gym but it has been a little sporadic of late. We go out every weekend with our friends and snacks are ordered en masse. It is so very tempting to pick on all the yummy foods. And of course I do like a drink and there is no low cal tonic either!!! Help!!!
Sorry I am no help. If I went to India, I would probably gain 20 pounds in no time. I discovered Indian food a few years ago and just fell in love with it.
LOL! Thanks! When I first came just when we were travelling around everyone said I would lose loads of weight... I came back a stone heavier!!! The stupid thing is that I know what I should be eating and how to lessen the cals whilst out, but once at the restaurant I 'forget'! My will power is shocking! Ah well I will really try!

Hi There,
Lucky You are in Goa. If you come down South(Where I was living) you won't even get non vegetarian foods.
I'm a vegetarian since birth so i don't know much about meat & Stuff. But this is a ideal plan. It comes close to 1700 calories
Early Morning 1 Cup Tea OR Coffee Morning Breakfast 2 Double Roti + 1 Banana +1 Egg.
Lunch 2 Chapati, 1 cup rice(with Dal/Sambar/Rasam)
1 Bowl Daal OR Chicken curry,
1/2 Bowl Curd,
1 Bowl Sabji.
Evening Snack 1 Cup Tea ,
2 Salty Biscuits / Cookies,
50 gm Channa
Dinner 3 Chapati,
1 Bowl Daal,
1 Bowl Meat Curry OR Fish Curry,
1 Bowl Sabji.
Bedtime 1 Glass Milk (Without Sugar) Oil OR Ghee 4 Teaspoonful for cooking only for the Whole Day!
Pls keep this things also in mind
1) If you find Idly/ Dosa in the menu go for it with lot of Sambar(By this time you would have got used to what is meant by Sambar)
2) Avoid Cocunet Chutneys
3) Incase of Sweets stick for Rasagulla or Rasamallai. (Many of the Indian Sweets are high in Calories)
4)If you are going for Chaat items (evening snacks) stick to Bhel Puri, Channa Masala. If you are going for other stuff bo specify "Cook with Less Butter". Some snacks even go upto 500 calories
5) Don't miss out Tender Cocunuts, its a speciality of Goa. High in sugar, but can be enjoyed in moderation
Do get back to me if you want to ask anything specific
I gained a lot of weight when I was eating Indian every day. I think bhoo has some of the best advice of what to eat that's good for you. Just stay away from the ghee, try using olive oil instead for cooking. And try not to eat fried or oil coated vegetables, I don't know if you have spray oil in India but if you do that always helps. Good luck!!
You should try eating a lot of spicy foods. I hear it help cut down on the appetite.
Thanks. I will bear it all in mind! I never cook with ghee, and don't buy the spray as it is too expensive although I used to use it in the UK. I now just put a small amount of oil and a little bit of water! I was really good last night and went to the gym in the morning then didn't eat loads when I went out, danced alot and i have lost 4 pounds!!! Whoop whoop!!! I made a mistake of how much I needed to lose I meant 14 pounds. So that is cool. I would like to get to 9st 4.... so only 10 to go... but sometimes I think the less you need to lose is the hardest? Or maybe I am just saying that cos I am finding it hard!!! lol! Thanks guys for all your comments. I hope that I keep this off till Friday for the weigh in! ARG!
