I mostly want to introduce myself. I'm hoping to make a couple of friends with people who would like to support eachother to be healthier. And maybe I can finally stick with exercising regularly and eating healthier.
My husband isn't supportive and knows the things to do to get me to go off of my diet and he does it often. I know he does it because he's not secure, but that doesn't give me the will power to resist and he always "attacks" when he knows I'm at my weakest.
When I was younger I had very healthy habbits mostly because my mother and I supported eachother through everything. I can't use my mom for support now because we're not close enough and she isn't available over the phone most of the day.
I'm in HORRIBLE health now because my husband likes to feed me and after having a c-section I developed a hypo-thyroid disorder that went unchecked for years. I'm now on medication but still can't seem to get my weight below 237 (I started around 260).
I don't go out much due to money and time constraints and I'm REALLY shy and insecure (mostly in person). I have a 6 year old daughter who's the light of my life and I'm trying to get healthier and lose weight because I felt so much better when I was in shape. I keep getting discouraged though because I can't seem to get under 237. As soon as I've tried for about 4 days to get below it I tend to go off of my diet and gain a pound or two and then have to fight my way back down to 237. It seems like a never ending cycle.
Anyway, I hope to hear from some of you soon. Everyone should keep up the good work. If you're here reading this it's either because you're already healthy, you're getting yourself healthy, or you're making the commitment to get healthy, and all of those are praise worthy. TTYL

Hello, piesh, and welcome to Calorie-Count.com. You've stumbled upon a really wonderful website and I'm sure you'll find the support you need :)
Have you spoken to your husband about the possibility of cooking healthier? :) Healthy cooking CAN be a challenge, but it's ultimately worth it, I think. I'm a man and I enjoy healthy cooking. So many delicious healthy foods :)
What kind of "Diet" are you trying? :)

Well...as for my husband he does most of the cooking in the house. He loves to cook but the problem is he won't eat ANY vegies. Even when I get him to promise he'll at least heat up some frozen vegies to put on the table for me they're never there come dinner time. It's usually my job to get our daughter through homework while he's making dinner. And I know I need to take more responsibility for what I eat, it's just hard to fight to keep my motivation up on my own all the time and the minute I fail I tend to give up.
I'm trying to count calories and get myself to workout for at least 15 min a day. I know it doesn't seem like much but I figure I need to start somewhere and then build off of it. As for eating at home I'm thinking of packing my dinner on work days so I've already eaten before we get home. The weekends will be a LOT harder though and I haven't figured those out yet.
I was following WW for a while and was doing OK on that because two women I worked with were doing it with me. That's where I lost the 20lbs. I changed jobs and am on my own again. WW wasn't working for me so I decided to try counting calories (which is what I used to do when I was younger). While searching for calorie information I stumbled across this website, and I'm SO glad I did.
So today is a new day and I'm starting fresh. Any recommendations for someone having a hard time getting below a particular weight?

If you don't mind me asking why don't you cook? At least the vegies if he doesn't want to and does that mean that your daughter doesn't eat any vegies either?
But you can do this you need to try and get some healthier meals in it is possible.

Hey Girl, WELCOME to CC.
All i have to say is my boyfriend eats unhealthy stuff all the time, i have 4 kids that my in laws buy them mcdonalds and its DAMN hard to resit a lot of the things i use to love an eat. BUT my will to be healthy an slimmer is more powerful and it took me a long time to see that. I have been doing this for 2 months (in a week or so) ive lost 22lbs as of today. And its only because i didnt let everyone around me choose what im gonna do, eat, etc. if there was something i really liked to eat that others were eating i altered it, example a cheese burger, im make a turkey burger with fat free cheese, wayyyyyyyy more healthier an actrally taste great, tacos, is make grilled chicken fajhitas with whole wheat, fat free tortilla, 2 tbsp salsa, fat free shredded cheese, light sour cream. you have to do it for you and tell him that you dont appriciate him not encouraging you. and the ppl on here are GREAT they have been a big help, & motivation for me.
If you ever need to talk you can always write me

Peish, I can sympathize with you. I don?t feel like I have the support I need. My husband used to make workout schedules for me to lift weights, he was kind of like my own personal trainer, but he?s so busy now days that I have to do it on my own. He doesn?t understand the weight struggle, he?s very lean and can eat anything without gaining a pound and he rarely eats veggies too. Also, I have a 5 year old daughter who can also eat anything she wants. So it?s like I?m the only one in the house going thru this struggle. I started at 229 pounds and I?ve lost 9 pounds in about 6 weeks. It feels like every couple of weeks I fall of the wagon. But I do try to get right back on because I know that I will just be right back where I started if I completely give up. I believe that support contributes a lot to success. Because when you?re going thru this alone, you beat yourself up so much and it?s so hard to motivate yourself.
I?ve heard people talk about hypothyroidism. What is it exactly? A few years ago my doctor told me to get my thyroid checked because I was suffering from depression at that time but I never did. I encourage you to keep your focus and get right back on if you fall off! Oh yea, the weekends are the hardest for me too, I guess because I don?t have a set schedule like during the week. Anyway, keep up the good work and hope to hear from you!

Hi Piesh!
I am glad that you found this site and welcome! I am also trying to find friends to help motivate each other so I have added you-- I hope you don't mind!
On of the hardest things about losing weight is that you have to change all of the things in your life that contribute to weight gain. I think this is something we all struggle with. For me the best way to stay motivated and keep working towards my goal is to just take things one step at a time and to spend as much time as I can researching about how to lose weight and why it is good for you. I am working on improving my weekends to!
Keep working towards your goals, and know that there are a lot of people here with great advice and success stories!

Hi there! I felt a little frustrated by those around me - including my husband. I had to do what was good for me anyway! Now he has joined in - and of course, he is losing weight faster than me! But we are both reducing calories through better food choices and smaller portions and exercising. He bought us a fitness membership at the gym for Valentines! Try to get your husband and daughter involved if possible, if not - do it anyway! Just get determined and make the choices that are good for you. Weekdays or weekends!
Wow! You guys are awesome. I wasn't expecting such a large response so soon. Thanks for making me feel welcome.
My issue is mainly trying to figure out how to re-order my life to let me be healthier. My alarm goes off at 5am and I usually take about 30 min to actually force myself out of bed. Then I have about 1-1.5 hours to get my family ready and out the door to get to school and to work. I don't get home until about 6:30-7:30 at night. Then I have to start helping my daughter with her homework and my husband cooks. It's been that way for a long time and any time I suggest cooking he heads for a drive thru on the way home (I'm sure it's because he knows I'll make something healthier). A lot of nights we wind up at a drive thru anyway because if we're not home until 7:30 we only have an hour and a half before it's bed time. Unfortunately with the combination of not getting exercise and eating well and my hypothyroid I actually need 8 hours of sleep.
My daughter will eat veggies sometimes but is very picky. I try not to force the issue TOO much because I don't want her to hate them. As long as she eats them sometimes and then has fruit the rest of the time I figure it's not too bad. As for me making the veggies and getting them on the table I will do that sometimes, but a lot of the time I feel so tired I just sit and eat whatever's there. Not only that but having veggies is good but won't help if you're mainly eating fatty foods with them. The lettuce is great on the cheeseburger, but come on, it's on a CHEESEBURGER. ;)
A lot of the time I just need someone to look at me and say "Eat something healthy and workout" when I start to think I'm too tired to take the time to be healthy. The problem is my husband doesn't do that for me. It's at those times he offers me chocolate and tells me to just relax in a bath. Then I give into the temptation and regret it later. Unfortunately I don't have a strong personality. So I know I need to change and I know I should do what I know is right rather than give into what my husband offers, but it's hard fighting 24/7.
PS hypothyroid is when your thyroid gland doesn't produce enough of whatever it produces. You have a hard time losing weight (and sometimes just start gaining it for no reason) and you're tired and have a horrible memory and get headaches and stuff. It's not very fun but once it's diagnosed it can be treated. =)

i have 4 kids as i said before an most nights i dont get home till 7:30 - 8 because at least 3 nights a week they have either karate or Softball. So what you do is make something healthy an quick, most ppl think healthy an go EWWWW, but thats not the case chicken is healthy an you can make it sooooooooo many differant ways. for ur daughter that doesnt like veggies spice em up, like my 4yo LOVESSSSSSSSSSSS cheese so ill buy those microwave green giant veggies with low fat cheese they taste good an there good for you.
Thyroid problems directly affect your metabolism too. If you're hypo, it'll slow you down...if you're hyper, it'll speed it up. I had hyperthyroid that was corrected with radiation treatment. Now, I have to watch out from becoming hypo. Eating well will help.
I took my weight loss/lifestyle change a little at a time. Sometimes easing into it rather than jumping in full force helps. At least it did with me. I started with my portions. I have the "eat out-drive thru" hubby too. I'd get that notorious cheeseburger and cut it in half. I'd eat half of it and maybe half the fries. Then I'd wait. If I felt I really needed more food to get me going, I'd cut the remaining half in half and eat that quarter. Before I knew it, I was ok with half of that cheeseburger. A couple weeks ago, I made myself a cheeseburger (and it was within my daily calories limit) a half hour later my stomach yelled at me about it...and I sat on the porcelain throne for a long time. Gave me time to think and be proud that that proved I was making the right decisions...slow as they may have been.
