I just noticed that I have lines/indentations on my fingernails, and I'm sure this is from the month that I wasn't eating (enough)...and possibly from the antibiotics I was on in the hospital...
Has anyone else noticed this or other measurable changes in your body after you started eating healthier and eating enough?
In time, after I started eating regularly again (and using of lotions), my skin became less dry, softer, and a healthier color.
Eating consistently and healthfully has helped me in so many other ways too:
- I can think more clearly
- I have so much more energy
- My mood is alot brighter
- I don't feel stuffed or bloated after a regular meal
- I'm not freezing all the time
- My mile times (I run cross country) improved so much that I started winning medals and became my team's MVP
- I didn't get sick this winter like I usually do
Good luck!
I didn't really mean that they were brittle... there's actually a visible indentation that moves up my nail as they grow, kind of like a growth ring.
I sooo know what you mean about not getting sick! I seriously have gotten seriously ill every winter for the past five years at least (mono, chronic bronchitis for 5+ months, appendicitis...). I figured that when I got out of the hospital after surgery and after losing so much weight that I was going to get sick really easily, but I have actually been healthier than I've ever been in my life, definitely thanks to eating much healtier.
(back to the winter sickness topic--->)I thought it was REALLY strange that I didn't get sick at all this winter too b/c at the time my Dr. told me and my parents that I had a low white blood cell count. They got pretty worried about me getting sick. Its strange though..everyone in my family and most of my friends came down with something, but I managed to get through fine for the first time in years. I'm definitely going to keep eating healthily and excercising (maybe I can convince others to as well) :)
If the indentation is across the nail width wise and you are watching it move further down as your nails grow it is in fact from trauma that your body has gone through. A lot of people notice them after having major surgery or a major illness.
do you mean going vertically down the nail and a load spreading right across?? if yes then thats what i have...but i have no idea what they are sorry :/ all i can say is they appeared when i became underweight so im guessing its due to not enough of a certain nutrient?? thats all i can think of!
I've had those lines ever since I remember (parallel to finger's length), but always figured they were normal growth lines. But your question piqued my curiosity (are my fingernails normal, or an indication of bad nutrition), so after a quick Google (best invention in a long while), I found out that mine are normal growth lines.
Here's the site I found: http://www.normanallan.com/Med/askdr/finger.h tml If you want to get a "second opinion", Google for "fingernail ridges".
There is a major difference in lines running lengthwise down your nail and lines running widthwise across.
