finished my first marathon today!!!!
i've achieved a life goal today and i feel great, well mentally at least. i ended with a time of 4:50:11 which is a lot longer than i had liked, but they didn't have to scrape me off the road so am ecstatic just to have finished. it was so bitter cold out this morning (dark and about 25˚, if that) so conditions were not optimal. but i did it. the best part, getting to go out to eat and eating anything that i wanted plus dessert! it was a slightly amazing day. i've achieved something pretty awesome today, and feel like i can conquer the world. now if i can only conquer the steps. i'm MAD sore! there were more hills than i expected in my very flat town of philly, somehow the course found them all. it's really an overwhelming feeling and the pain will leave but the pride will stay...
personally i have had a pretty rough couple of years, just some really bad luck in life, so this was kind of a me vs world thing and it didn't beat me. it's a really awesome feeling....
now, who's making me dinner? looks like the delivery man is coming to my house tonight. i'm starved.....
whatever you think is impossible, clearly isn't.
Congratulations, floyd -- you've now completed something that millions of us will never even attempt -- be very proud of yourself!
congratulations man
i'm proud of you
Congratulations to you!! I'm training for a mere 5k right now.. Maybe one day I'll get to where you are; I simply can't imagine running that far. What an accomplishment! Way to go! You should be VERY proud! ![]()
That's awesome. I'm so happy for you. Heck, I wish I could be where you are... soreness and all.
thats great!
i popped out a knee about a month before i never got to finish training. the most i ever ran was 25 miles and i was on a runners high for 2-3 days after it. it was truely amazing!! and i thought about the philidelphia marathon myself, i didn't know it was hilly.
just think now you can switch your icon to the marathon medal.=)
good for you, enjoy the runners high.
THANK YOU ALL, and you can all do it, just like i did. slowly and surely. you start with a few miles and build up. i am semi athletic but quit smoking in jan. after 10 years, so never doubt yourself. i started with 5k's too....keep it going!!!
today was truly the best day, my mother, father, best friend and 3 year old son were right near the finish line and they energized me so much that i went from a scuffle to picking up my concrete legs and running it in to the finish.
i'm sore, but i took my 3 year old out (it's just me and him, so we celebrate everything together in style, and he did a kid run so we celebrated his win too) and we spent the night out.
and sfredbull, the first thing i am doing tomorrow is taking a pic of the new medal and making it my icon!!!!
the best thing about running a marathon. saying that you did it, and knowing that you will never have to do it again. (all the while knowing that you want to torture yourself again) it's off my life list....

Congrats! My goal is to run a marathon when I'm 30 (if not before).
Congratulations! What a wonderful accomplishment! You have earned the right to feel so proud. Hang on to that good feeling.
Congratulations! I'd sticky you for bragging rights but that slot's taken for the week - I'll keep you in mind for next week though ;)
thanks melkor, i'm all good and my mom is doing most of my bragging for me!!! that's really nice to know that you would do that though.
