My goal is to look hot in a bikini by August.  This is not to say that I will actually wear it in public (LOL), but I want to feel like I look good in one :)

So, this will be my FIRST time ever in a bikini because I know I'll get there.

Is it your first time as well?  Are you going to attempt to wear it infront of others?  Just curious how to break out of my shell and realize that a little chub is not the worst thing in the world!

I can't say that I've ever worn a bikini.  But after a quick peak at your profile picture I have no doubt that you will be bikini ready by August!  I wouldn't be surprised if you could pull one off now.

I used to wear a bikini all the time when I was younger (and I had a great body but took it for granted). I am now 169 and thinking that at 160-164 I will be ready for a new swimsuit because my other one is falling off now.

I think the only thing holding me back now is my stretchmarks, but I don't want that to dictate my happiness and my comfort. I love the sun and playing in the water, and I have earned the right to wear that bikini. :) I am mostly writing to myself, sorry for the babel.

I think you should wear that bikini like no other girl could. Confidence makes people feel sexier, and look it. So wear it girl!

my weight hasn't changed that much over the years but my confidence has.  i wore a bikini for the forst time last year and was pretty happy with how un-self concious i was at the time.  now i'm doubting myself again and back to wearing a tankini...
what ever you're comfortable in go for it and be proud!

The last time I wore a bikini (in fact, the first summer and last summer really) was just after a summer and fall of teetering on the brink of an eating disorder and losing 2 stone, at least. That would be almost 4 years ago! Last time I wore one, after all that pain, I *still* wasn't happy with my body, but now I'd kill for it! Please, God, let me at least be happy with what I have this time around! I plan to wear it in front of people, and in front of the camera, so that I can capture at least one summer of a figure I'm happy with. Bring on summer 08, and here's to shedding pounds and clothes, and gaining buckets of confidence :D

well thank you, jeremy- that is really sweet!  But... I had a baby just 9 months ago and with that comes the extra skin and stretch marks (ick!)... so I think I'll wait until I can firm up the tummy a little better :)

ralplovestrixie - that is a great motivator for you!  Lose 10 lbs and fit into that bikini.  I was thinking I would be about the same weight when I went shopping for one :)

cerealaddiction - I hear ya on the tankini!  I used to be 165 and still could not make myself buy a bikini.  Now I put on my tankini and it looks okaaay, but I'm not quite where I want to be yet :)

princess-adora - it's nice to hear that you have recovered and are working towards a happier, healthier you.  Good luck with weight loss and *cheers* to summer 08!

Believe it or not, my husband (then boyfriend) bought me my first bikini as a birthday present about 14 years ago. I was dumbstruck. I didn't quite know how to explain to him that a woman typically needs to try on, say, 50 swimsuits before finding one that can remotely be worn in public. He had shopped at Nordstroms for gosh sake. So I figured I would try it on , reveal to him how horrible I would look and try to stroke his damaged ego. That damn suit fit me perfectly. Not only, I looked pretty good. It was definitely a defining moment in our relationship.

Now, 14 years and two small children later my body has actually changed for the better (go figure). I also moved with my husband to Italy (he is italian) where women of all shapes, sizes and ages wear bikinis without hesitation. It is actually very liberating. Seriously. When I first moved here I was in my one piece and my 60+ year old, overweight mother in law and all her friends were happily strolling the beach in their bikinis.

I have no doubt that not only will you be wearing a bikini by August but that you'll look and feel fantastic. Not to mention the fact that a bikini tan is really sexy..... Smile

I bought my 1st ever bikini last week. I have to be honest, though, I'm a bit nervous about wearing it out in public. I've lost a total of 36 lbs and am 5'3'' 120lbs, but I still have a bit of flab on my stomach and I'm afraid I'll be self conscious about it.  I guess I'll have to continue to work on my abs.   The icky part of the whole thing is that I had to buy an Extra Large top and small bottoms. : (

I wore my first bikini a couple of months ago when my family took me to the beach. I would have done it before but I totally dislike going to the beach. All that sand, and my red skin, and the crabs... u_u not for me. I look myself in the pictures and I saw myself so ugly, and my brother said "wtf, you look like a walking skeleton in bikini so stop thinking you're fat because you're underweight!". And people in the beach looked at me like O_o .. I don't know if they thought I looked too skinny for them or my bikini looked funny on me because it was fluorescent pink coloured xD

The point is that I hated it and I felt extreeemely uncomfortable .

That is awesome that you had the courage to buy it and want to work harder to get to wear it!  And buying a bigger top isn't a bad thing at all!  I'm sure I'll have to do the same thing... my body shape is an upside-down triangle LOL... NO ASS!  My husband reassures me that my ass will look better once I'm skinny, but I'm pretty sure I don't have a crazy amount of back fat to lose, so whatever.

I wear bikinis all the time - I never wear swimming costumes. I started wearing them a couple of years back, starting with the 'hot pant'/short bikinis which I felt more comfortable in. To be honest I think they are much more flattering, they tend to balance your body more, visually speaking. I would suggest the bra style top over the vest as I found a vest top draws attention to love handles and tummies - again it balances out your body a bit more. Who ever said about it being a liberating experience is quite right - it's a wonderful feeling - and take a look around on the beach you will see people of all shapes and sizes! If you feel a little uncomfortable do the surf thing - a nice bikini (bra-style top) with a pair of board shorts over the top. That always looks hot!

Alright, so I've looked into it a little and I definitely think I will wait until 175lbs to get my first bikini.  I think I like the cute shorts and halter top best... seems to do better on the chunky girls Laughing

My girlfriends and I are doing a float trip in August... NEW MOTIVATION!!!!

31 lbs to go until BIKINI!
