Alright, so I know these posts aren't particularily insightful or anything, but I really just want to post it, for the sake of posting!

Mid-/late-January of this year, I decided to run a half-marathon, scheduled for Mother's day (last month).  I have never run before.  Well, injuries/etc got in the way and I didn't end up running the half-marathon, but today, I did in fact run my first official race-- a 10k!  Not nearly nor ambitious as the half-mara, especially since now my longest distance record is 11 miles, but even so!  It was so much fun!!  Especially since just 6 months ago, I was positive I "HATED" running (I am not obsessed..not gonna lie!)...

I'm a pretty slow runner (I blame being "short"...if 5'4" can be considered short....and having shorter legs), but I finished in under an hour (55:46) which is pretty good, for me.  I had really only run outside a few other times prior to this, so it was a good experience.  I took 35th place out of 56 total finishers, I believe...  11/27 female, and 7/14 in my age division (20 years old, the division was 20-29)....

ANYWAY!  I'm done talking about myself now, I was just pleased.  :)

On a less happy note, my stomach has been unhappy all day, which has sort of taken away my appetite, but I've been stuffing myself with food reardless...oh well..!

YAYAYAYAYAY! i'm so happy for you (not to mention jealous). ITS SO EXCITING!

i hope your stomach gets better. its probably just confused. or tired. or irregular. or something. it'll have to get used to it if you're going to continue your marathon career. :) CONGRATS

so exciting! congrats! after my first 10k i told anyone who would listen ;)

yayyy :). GREAT job! i can only hope one day i'll be able to run a 10k. i'm so proud of you!

I just got back to fast walking at my local track and have been trying to make it 1 time around a 1/4 mile track at a good run.  I am almost there.  You inspire me!  Congratulations!

Congratulations! You've earned bragging rights - you set a goal for yourself, and you went and did it.

Now, go do it again :)

Careful....racing is addictive!!!  I just ran my first race of the season on Sunday and I'm already looking forward to the next one!  Congrats.

Let me know if you're ever interested in tips on how to improve time :)  I'm a shorty like you (5'3''), so I know how you feel!

Thanks guys!

I'm definately already looking forward to more...  My mom ran with me (I made her start running, too...  I was away at school and she was at home, so it was cool to sort of have this thing we were both doing "together") and she's just glad it's over, whereas I'm all for more!  Except my foot is now in considerable pain, but, whatever... ;)  I'm tryinig to find a half-marathon sometime in a couple of months or so, before I go back to school.  I definately know I could go further!

dc_runner81 - I will definately take you up on that!  I'd love to increase speed..!
