so I've been veg since the beginning of summer. I cut all meat out but lost a little too much weight. So I started eating fish for the protein to help me gain a little weight. it's a rare thing. anyway, today is thanksgiving and i was not at all tempted by the deliciously cooked warm and seasoned turkey. but now that night has fallen, i have a terrible craving for some of that cold leftover turkey with a slice of kraft singles on some crappy white bread--3 things i haven't craved since jr high! just thought i'd share...

Sounds to me like you are in search of comfort and went back in your memories for that comfort food.  Perhaps you should visit a nutritionist to make sure you are getting enough calories.

Good Luck,

Carrie

Being vegetarian is entirely voluntary, it's not like you signed a contract....  If you want to have a sandwich, have one.

What did you have instead of the standard fare? Did you feel deprived or like you missed out? If you must, have a sandwich, no one is going to strike you down for it :)

But maybe better meal planning is in store for the upcoming holidays. We still have more meat heavy holidays coming up.  Try some recipes between now and then that will give you the same "feel".

I found that things like Gravy were what I missed the most. Warm and yummy, full of calories and roasted animal, buttery... salty... but I digress. I found some recipes for gravy and have been trying them out. I made a really nice cashew based one that I used in my shepherds pie earlier this week (which was really really good and gave that warm "comfort" feeling).  I tried a roasted garlic one as well, which didn't turn out as well (mainly because I messed up and have my pepper thingy on "pour" instead of "sprinkle" >.>)

i certainly didn't deprive myself of the holiday goodies--mashed potatoes, rolls, noodles, green beans, the works. i really think it was part of me longing to be footloose and fancy free again. sounds cheesy, but its my first year away from home and so random things like that make me feel good haha. once i figured out thats what it was i was able to fight the craving for it. Can't say the same for the peppermint bark and chocolate toffee pretzels :p

Haha that sounds pretty good. Glad you were able to figure out what the root of the issue was.

Haha oh I've been vegetarian since last spring (didnt eat red meat for 5 yrs beforehand), and I can agree...I never really desired meat 'til Thanksgiving! I actually wanted some of the turkey...didn't have it though and had lots of veggies in its place =D

It was my first year as a veggie, I had Tofurkey and I didn't miss the meat at all. Try it next year it's YummY
