First Party Since Starting To Lose Weight, Any Tips?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone!

My friend is having a party tonight and it's the first party I am going to since I started to lose weight.  When I went to parties before I had a really hard time trying to control what I eat (the mentality is well it's there I might as well eat it), plus all the sweet goodies that are there as well.  I have two tips that I am already going to put into place.

1) Eat a cup of my yoplait light yogurt before I go so I can satisfy my sweet tooth (and also not go on an empty stomach).

2) If there's veggies eat those first before I start eating the naughties this way I can have a full stomach without eating a ton of calories.

Are those any good and/or are there any other tips that you can offer?  Thank you SO much!

I'm going to a party too! I'm also a little nervous, but I figured out something that I can do....

I'm going to bring some of my own snacks!! I plan on bringing snacks that will allow me to indulge a little but not go crazy and go over my calorie allowance for the day (as i probably would do). Good Luck and have fun at your party! :)

Good luck at your party as well. :)

How long have you been dieting? If this is your first major event, I see no harm in treating yourself to a night of yummies.

Maybe eat at your maintenance level. That's a good little kick to the metabolism every once in a while.

  • if there is alcohol either avoid it (it impairs judgement on healthy eating, etc) or for every glass drink a glass of water
  • stay away from the vicinity of the food, it will only tempt you
  • only allow yourself one plate, or pick a limit before you eat
  • don't mindlessly graze
  • enjoy the party for what it is:  a social event--so talk, work the crowds, don't make the food the main focus
  • as someone said before, eat a snack before you go
  • only allow yourself x treats (depending on your diet plan)
  • pick the more filling foods (veggies, crudites, fruit salad, etc)

Plan to eat at your maintenance level that day.
For every drink that you have, match it with a glass of water.
Fill your plate once with goodies, enough for two or three bites of each.
Stick to veggies after.
If there are a lot of desserts, pick one or two that you can not resist and leave the rest alone.
Have some great conversations, dance and generally just have lots of fun.

I am having a party tonight at my house!  I just finished running 10 miles so that I can eat a little more.  However....I guess all that running made me NOT hungry.  I ate a ton of protein for breakfast too.  I think I'm going to be good tonight!  I wish you luck at your party!  Maybe if you can, have a quick workout before! :-)

Bumping cause I moved it to a new forum.

What I do is eat all the negative calorie foods I want. IE: Carrots, melon, canteloupe, strawberries, the like. (I usually eat these until I bloat up like a balloon, might be uncomfortable, but the scale number in the morning makes it all worth it. x3)

And only a strict limit on the things you POSITIVELY CANNOT RESIST. For me, it's 5.

Have fun!

While good choices, fruit and veg don't have negative calories; that's a myth.  Celery comes closest but it only just about breaks even.
