I have reached my first plateau.

I already went through the " im doing all this exercise and dieting and its not working??? "  fit.

 Im looking online and the different things I can do to overcome it. But I wanted to know what worked for you in kicking the plateau to the curb? I am eagerly awaiting your experiences so I can implement them.

Mine moved another 1lb ! yaay. Gleddy did anything happen yet?And Julieraven, hope it goes down more for you!
Plateau's suck.  I think we can all agree on that.  They make us frustrated and (at least for me) make me question whether or not i need to change what i'm doing.  Upping your calories slightly will help, changing your exercise routine helps.  But sticking to what you are doing well help too.  Make sure you aren't cheating...even slightly.  Eventually your body will give in and you will win.  I know that sounds cheesy but it takes some time.  Next week i'll be posting about my plateau and how frustrated I am.  ha ha ha.  I think the bottom line is, vary what you've been doing and you'll notice a change! :)
I upped my calories and zig-zagged for about three days before dropping back to just above 1200. i also added more intense pilates and did a couple of different aerobics dvds (I found a belly dancing one that is great!). The next time I weighed myself I was almost two punds lighter and it's continued so far. Keep switching your workout a bit, keeps your body "on it's toes"! Good luck!
You know what I find hard with zig zagging is going back to 1200 cals.  I feel satisfied at 1450 but famished at 1200.  I am taking today off from working out cause I am cramping and it is raining and I will try to eat 1200.  I didn't exercise yesterday it was my usual day off from it and I ended up eating 1550.  I do ok at 1200 if it is too hot to eat.  Does anyone else find they are hungry at 1200?
Since 1200 cal is the minimum required to keep you from shutting down into starvation mode, yeah, I'd get hungry! 1500 is more comfortable and more practical....don't forget to account for your excercise calories or you'll be running too low.
*hallelujah*

people who understand!  :D   I've been stuck at 176lbs for 6 weeks now.  I've tried:

* upping fibre + water

* zig-zagging (1500 cals, 1200 cals, 1700 cals, etc)

* taking breaks from exercise

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

just reading this thread made me feel a lot better tho.  keep on keepin on everyone -- we'll win this battle eventually :D

copied and pasted from my journal today -- this is a real eye-opener for me -- maybe will help someone else?

============================================= ====
I'll post an update in here at my next weigh-in -- FRI AUG 9 and let you know how it's going!

I realise this is an older thread, and am fairly new to this so not sure if im doing the right thing... but i need help!

I think i have hit a plateau? I have been eating 1200 cals per day and think i maybe have been eating to little from what i am reading here, bt im so scared to up the cals incase i put on weight...

Height  5'6

weight 157

age 29

 what should i do? I stood on the scale today and got so depressed, I had planned today as my cheat meal and because i was upset with the scale i ate to many calories... Im normally really good with controlling myslef, but today i went way over...

hate feeling so depressed about myself...

any feed back???

This is what I have been looking for as well.  I took a break over the holidays, November and December and have made it back to where I started plus losing another 5 pounds.  I started out January of last year at 262 and am down to 207!  I am at 1650 cals per day and this is the hardest for me so far.  Something I have noticed about my body is that when I have too much aspartame (Crystal Light, Diet Soda, etc.) my weight loss stops dead in it's tracks and it takes a few days of not having any of it to get going again.  That is something you might want to look at in your diets.  I have come to the conclusion that if I want pop, I am better off paying for the real thing than taking a short cut with diet and paying for it in the end.
Also, has anyone here lost their weight by ONLY watching what you eat?  That is how I have done it so far, and I am wondering if adding just a little bit of exercise would help.  (As you all are reading this, there is probably a great big resounding "Um, YEAH!!)

Happening to me to!!!! I ate more yesterday so let's just wait and see...

Edit: I've stopped eating 2 hours before bed time, worked out and I am doing a maintanance week this week to boost my mentabolism! IT WORKED!!!! I lost 1 kg this week (not much but still), I was stuck at the same weight for 2 months!!!!

I had several (one at 130/120/110) and I think different exercise routines/foods/calorie zig zagging usually helps.

I remember I hit a plateau and then played DDR for awhile and I dropped like 10 lbs. (well before that I didn't really exericse.) I hit another plateau, started counting calories so I changed my eating habits.

Im such an impatient young one I consider 1 week of no weight loss a plateau. xD Thats when I usually get so frustrated I call my scale names and hide it.

But what ALWAYS works for me is a bunch of good friends, a good movie downtown and a very generous bag of candy. Works like a dream if done once in 1-2 weeks, believe it. The scale always reads 100-400 grams less 1-2 days after the indulgence.

I find that my weight varies as much as 2.5kg over the course of a week or so, and that neither diet nor exercise seem to have much to do with the variations... it's pretty clearly hydration.  It seems that for me anyhow, there's about a 2 week delay before calorie restriction has any effect. Weight-lifting on the other hand seems to always produce a slight weight gain within a week.

If only there were a way to measure muscle-mass separately from fat!  I've been on a plateau (at BMI 24-25) for the last month after loosing 17kg, and I guess I could just decide that that's a fine place to be, but I still have a little bit of fat around the middle that I'd like to get rid of, so I'm going to try to break out of it.

I was reluctant to up my calories. Afraid wouldbe the right word. But I gathered courage to do that and broke off the plateau!!!
