First Triathlon!
I've just signed up to compete in a sprint triathlon in August. I've always been a swimmer, so that's a good strength to have, I'm not too concerned about the bike, and as the run is only 2.5K I'm pretty comfortable with that also - it's more the changeovers and attire that have me thinking now... specifically, I need to wear a sports bra for the run - there's no way I can run without one, but I can't exactly just pop on a sports bra in the middle of the race! Do other people swim with their sports bras on under their suits? I guess my real concern is about the supportive qualities my the sports bra after it's been through the swim - anyone have any experience here?
Can't help with the sports bra question, but I'm excited about my first sprint tri in August too! :) What are your distances; it seems like your run is half the distance of the sprint tri that I'm doing (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run).
I also come from a swimming background, with no concerns about the bike (I commute 30k round trip to work once a week). But it's the run that has me concerned. I did my second brick run this weekend, with a 12.5k ride and a 3k run. Survived, at least. :)
Good luck!

For that distance, you could just tri in your favorite one piece bathing suit. You could throw on bike shorts for the bike, then take them off and run in your bathing suit.
Tri tops for femmes come with a built in bra.
Because it's a try-a-tri it's a super sprint distance, so 400m swim, 10k bike and 2.5k run. It's the first competitive event I've done since I was in High School, and my first test of my newfound athleticism - I started working with a personal trainer in January - I've lost about 35lbs since then - and still have a way to go, but I want to do this race now so I have a point of reference when I reach my goal next year and do it all over again :-)
I think I'm going to have a shop around and see what I can find with regards to tops and such - thanks Wes - something supportive and quick drying... who knew it'd be this expensive getting all prepared for a race!
I just want to let you know how awesome it is that you're doing this. I really admire anyone who can survive a triathalon! Good luck!
I was looking for a "try a tri" distance, but they only had them earlier in the summer, and I wasn't doing any running yet. So I went for a longer distance, but later in the summer.
Keep posting with your progress, though! I look forward to hearing from someone who's in the same boat I am. :) I talked one of my co-workers to sign up with me, so I've got some company, anyway.

Hey great for you! I did my first sprint triathlon last year. I did 2 last summer actually. My third is planned for July 26th!
I bought some tri shorts and a quick dry running top so i dont have to change at all. The shorts are made for all three events. I got them at REI. They are quick dry, have a bit of padding for the bike and have rubber inside the shorts so they dont ride up on the run!
I love doing these now. Next year it's my goal to do an olympic distance triathlon! That's really awesome. You will inspire so many people. I have actually recruited 5 friends who watched me do it last year to actually do the triathlon with me!
I really think it's awesome. You will love it and good luck!
How can I stop binging after 6 o'clock?
