Usually an order of french fries is between 500-700 calories. But since fries come in different shapes and sizes, it would be hard to guess how many calories are in ten of them without counting how many are served.

I think 500-700 calories is too high a figure.  If you look up french fries on this site it shows about 300+ calories for a large order of McDonalds fries.  I have a calorie book that shows 10 french fries as 156 calories.  Assuming that an order of fries has about 20-30 fries, that comes out to be 312-400+ calories.
I was trying to figure out fish and chips the other day, because I was at a chippy with my husband.

If your chips are thick cut, they don't absorb as much of the oil, and keep more vitamins in the potato, which is good. Go for the lighter fish, such as cod or sole. I also removed the batter from one side of my fish (don't want to get rid of all of it, else what's the point? ).

I estimated 600 for my 6" piece of battered cod and probably 15 chips. And that might be overestimating a little. It was a splurge meal, but I still came in on target that day with a little maneuvering.
