Have you heard of these "FitFlops"?  They're flip flops that are supposed to help you burn more calories and build muscle just by roaming around in them.  Excerpt from the website:  "...just by wearing a pair of FitFlops you'll get more exercise while doing just exactly what you're normally doing."

Does anyone have any experience with them?  They sound a little gimmicky to me.

Thoughts?

OH MY GOD I'm such an idiot. All this time I have been doing my walking in regular shoes.

Another vote for "gimmick"

You'll have to excuse spirochete - you can search for her rant from last week on these. :)

genius marketing. Oh, the actual product? Look, its a sandal. Go for a walk and you'll burn calories. --;

the obsessed compulsive in me sees a thing that goes between toes and wants to barf. sorry~

what they should do is a hybrid Croc / FitFlop and they would make a mint!

a fool and his money...

The only shoes that ever helped me get more fit, and they worked.

Good thing they've shown up to tell you that you've been doing it wrong the whole time...

I would totally get a pair of these, but I'm afraid my legs will get too buff and bulky.  If I cut the flip-flops in half and walked twice as far would my legs get toned instead of buff?

hehe

#7 was funny!

Just don't do squats in them and you'll be fine.

also: the hip adductor machine rocks

omg. you could totally strap on an AbSolution, FitFlops, EZee Slimming Patch... choke down some Master Cleanse and BAM! Perfection!

and here i am counting calories like a sucker~

If you wear the FitFlops while doing the Master Cleanse you'll probably just evaporate

I saw an ad for them in Shape magazine.  They're a bit pricey, at least as expensive as Teva.  Paying $80 for a pair of flip flops just strikes me as outrageous, but if anyone has experience with them and they've actually helped with muscle tone I'd be interested in hearing about it.

i think we just had the same conversation in a thread about victoria's secret sandals, but i'll say it again: athletic shoes are so supportive, our feet don't have to work at all.  it makes perfect sense that sandals that require a little more effort will burn more calories.  it's not a new idea or a gimmick.  those of us who have done barefoot workouts know how hard our feet can work, when freed from shoes.

don't run in them - especially not on irregular surfaces.  but if you're just walking, of course you'll burn more calories.

I bought these last fall, not so much because they were "fit" flops, but I thought they were cute and looked so comfy and more supportive than regular fit flops.  I am happy with them.  I wore them for a full day packing boxes for a big move and my glutes were sore - however could be from the moving LOL.  They are pricy, but of great quality and I would recommend them.  Just take their claims with a grain of salt.

The idea is not that you would lose more weight or burn more calories, the idea is that the way they're shaped makes your foot and leg work slightly differently than it's used to, toning the muscles while you walk, in a different way than the muscles are used to moving when walking.  You may feel a difference after a long time of walking in them, but you'd really have to wear them all the time and do a lot of walking to actually SEE a difference.

The only shoes I have ever know to induce muscle growth were ballerina slippers..... have you guys ever seen the calves on those girls? Yikes! No wonder there are not many male ballet dancers.... one wrong kick and you are sterile!

it sounds so stupid. theyre just sandals.

Now convert any flipflop into a FitFlop!

Instructions:

Wear flipflops outside.
Kick feet so flipflops go flying off of your feet and away from you. (Alterative - Throw flipflops as far as you can!)
Sprint chase after flipflops.
Put flipflops back on.
Repeat!

That will be 4 easy payments of $29.99 please.
