Can I fix this?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi there -

MAJOR splurge fest last night at a Super Bowl party.  I had to have consumed a solid 3k calories yesterday (everything was sooo delicious so I'm not feeling too sad about it, hehehe).  Anyway, my question is, can I keep my calories around 1000-1200 for the next day or two to reverse what I did last night or is it more of a...'what's done is done' sort of thing and just move on?  FYI - My normal calorie range is 1500-1700.

Thanks for any input!

If you're really feeling bad about it, you could cut it a little, but you shouldn't go below 1200.  Another option is to exercise a little more over the next couple of days to increase your deficit.

I'd just chalk it up to a fun splurge day and move on.

Just move on - eat normally. Maybe you won't lose this week but it's not a race, right?

i would say eat your normal calorie range.  if it makes you more comfortable, then stay around the 1500 for a couple days.  and drink TONS of water, since most super bowl related snacks are full of sodium.  water, water, water.

you should keep eating your regular amount of calories...a day like you had yesterday is sometimes good...your body starts to work harder to burn off the extra calories and doesnt realize you went back to normal....doing that every few weeks actually jump starts your body and you lose a little more...when i plateau thats what i do and it usually works...dont beat yourself up, i did the same thing....

Good for you - and even better that you don't feel bad about it.  I think there are plenty of us in your same boat - I know I ate some good food last night!  We're just back on it today.  I'm planning to go to the gym after work today and probably won't splurge with my usual ice cream after dinner, but that's about all I am going to do.  My cal range is the same as yours, so one day will not break us.

Glad you had fun!

Sometimes our bodies need a little jolt like that to get us losing again. Just chalk it up to bad decisions and learn from it. Move on and eat healthy and do what you are suppose to and I bet if a few days you will have lost weight.

It's good you are not dealing with guilt feelings. Good for U!

Thank you everyone for the input.  I 'punished' myself on the treadmill today, but have decided after reading everyones input, not to restrict my calories below the norm.  How cool would it be to see the scale go down after that fest??  Haha.  Thanks again, I appreciate your advice!

Lev2 - That is a GORGEOUS picture!!!  I love it!

Sounds like you did well.  I went to a class at my gym tonight, and the instructor said it's not unusual for people to eat 6,000 calories at a Super Bowl party!  We can't give up everything, can we?

Thanks!  :-)  I was 155 at my wedding 2 years ago, so that picture keeps me motivated to get back there.
