Flat Belly Diet?

Quote  |  Reply

Has anyone tried the Flat Belly Diet? It's a book by Liz Vaccariello and cynthia sass. I'm on day 1 but i've been reading the book and it's very informative, especially to me who can't seem to get rid of belly weight. The premise is to eat a serving of MUFA(good fat) with each meal, such as avocados, oils, nuts, etc. But they have to be good fat, and the book names all these reasons why you just can't rid of the belly bloating. It all makes sense to me, i chew gum, which is bad, i eat too fast, don't drink enough water, etc. All these legit reasons, i really reccomend it for everyone looking to lose belly fat. I'm only on day 1 but i will let you all know how it goes, im not good to sticking to diets but i guess its not really a diet. And i was wondering if anyone else has tried it and been successful?

What's wrong with chewing gum, out of curiosity?  Mind explaining that?

Anyways, it looks like it's standard healthy eating rules.  It's more of a lifestyle than a diet.

I didn't read the whole book but what she says is that when you chew gum you allow extra air to enter your stomach creating it to become bloated. It causes excess gas i think. 'Air enters the intestine and it doesnt get absorbed into the bloodstream. It remains trapped until it can be eventually expelled via a belch or flatulence. Until then, it meanders through your GI tract, causing distention and discomfort ' Either way i chew a lot of gum and i swallow my gum and i know that cant be good, its a habit but im just gonna give up on it completely

I don't know if I believe that, but swallowing your gum probably isn't great either way.

Gum chewing shouldn't really cause noticeable bloat. You'd have to swallow a whole lot of air, and I'm sure it would "out" itself by that time.

Has anyone here tried it?

I have the book and read some of it, but haven't tried sticking strictly to that plan. They weren't supposed to charge me the full price until I'd tried it for a number of days. I was planning to read over it and send it back during the trial offer, but since they charged me the full amount and I'd ruined the box it came in- i decided to keep it.

It was a waste of money- telling me some things I already knew about bloating and then some stuff I chose to ignore (like the gum chewing)...

I found this article regarding the Flat Belly diet: Flat Belly Diet! Does It Fall Flat on Its Promises?

I'm always skeptical when it comes to these things. Sounds like a Fad diet to me.

I've got the book but haven't really read through the whole thing.
The MUFA thing has me convinced, but the calorie content of avocados (and other MUFA foods) has got me skeptical...

tell me how it goes though :D

Check out the sample recipes on the web site and you will see that even with the MUFA foods the diet is lower in calories than most people consume.  I am sure that has a bit to do with weight loss. Quite a bit really.

For example: Lunch

3 oz tuna

1 cup steamed baby carrots

1 piece of light string cheese

Thats not a lot of food and the other meals travel the same path.  Its more common sense nutrition and portion control.

They claim "no crunches required".  Yet...and yet I cant see how someone is really going to become fit without excercise.  Thats the marketing "sell a dream" ploy.

By the by...I think this site is way better than a book.  Information here is dynamic and changes with the research and knowledge of our times.  Books get dated quickly!

the recipes you listed, i.e. the carrots, tuna, etc is just what you eat the first 4 days to debloat your belly. After that there are tons of good recipes in the book that are filling and real food like Pesto pasta, sandwhiches, filling breakfasts, ive tried them and they are good! My fav. is waffles with banana, strawberries and dark chocolate on top. The choc is the MUFA. and its soooo good! Anyway i have lost inches on my waist and stomach! :)
